A jet-stream dye laser was pumped simultaneously by a CW argon laser and a high-power xenon ion laser. The frequency and bandwidth of the pulsed radiation obtained were locked to the CW radiation inside the folded cavity.

Frequency locking in double-pumped dye laser

The spectral evolution in a xenon ion-pumped open dye stream laser was measured and analysed in terms of a theoretical spectro-temporal relation previously derived. Sweep occurs in a 200 ns time scale and simultaneous oscillations of several wavelengths can be achieved by varying laser cavity parameters. Experiments were completely reproduced by assuming that the phenomena can be ascribed to the homogeneous broadening of the laser fluorescent band.

The time-resolved spectrum of a pulsed dye laser

A review will be given of recent progress in device research for optical fiber communications. Recent results include improved growth of epitaxial layers by liquid-phase, vapor-phase and molecular beam epitaxy in both the GaAlAs and the InGaAsP materials systems, improved structures, performance and life of laser and detector devices, laser structures for single-mode operation, and devices operating at the longer IR wavelengths where fiber losses and fiber dispersion are low. Experimental modulators, switches and filters in the guided-wave form of integrated optics will also be discussed.

Rotational relaxations in a high pressure N 2 laser

It can be used alsoin the graduate and post-graduate teaching. In addition, the use of all the instruments that compose the equip-ment allows to make contact with high voltage power supplies, high vacuum technique, optical assemblies andthe use of light detectors and radiation analyzers, which are instruments that generally are not used within thetraditional teaching.Keywords: modern physics, teaching, laser.

Abordaje de la ensenanza de aspectos importantes de la f´ isica moderna a traves del uso de un laser de xenon multi-ionico pulsado (Important aspects of modern physics teaching approach through the use of a multi-ionic xenon laser)

A pulsed xenon ion laser with an output power of 1 kW over the blue-green lines was used to pump an open dye stream laser. An efficiency of the order of 40 percent was determined in broad-band mode operation. The bandwidth in this case was 48 nm (from 582 to 630 nm).

The spectral composition of the (O-O) N 2 UV stimulated band, as the linewidths of the individual stimulated transitions remain unchanged when the nitrogen pressure and the excitation voltage range from 40 to 100 torr and, from the threshold, to 10 kV, respectively, is observed with a laboratory superradiant emitter.
