Journal ArticleDOI

Low pH as an inhibiting factor in the transition from mesophilic to thermophilic phase in composting

TL;DR: The respiration rate was strongly reduced at 46 degrees C and pH below 6, compared to composts with a higher pH or lower temperature, suggesting the combination of high temperature and low pH is a possible adverse factor in large-scale composting of food waste.
Journal ArticleDOI

SE—Structures and Environment

TL;DR: Gaseous emissions and the biological turnover of organic household wastes were studied under controlled conditions in a compost reactor (55°C, moisture content 65% w/w, O 2 concentration 16% in compost off-gas).

Guidelines on the use of urine and faeces in crop production

TL;DR: Jönsson, H. et al. as discussed by the authors present guidelines on the use of Urine and Faeces in Crop Production, which are described in EcoSanRes Fact Sheet 5.
Journal ArticleDOI

Source separated urine-nutrient and heavy metal content, water saving and faecal contamination

TL;DR: In this article, the amounts and concentrations of nutrients and heavy metals in urine solution from a source separating sewage system were measured, indicating that the system did not have any large nitrogen loss.
Journal ArticleDOI

Effects of pH and microbial composition on odour in food waste composting.

TL;DR: High odour emission from food waste compost was correlated to low pH and microbes in high-odour samples included Lactic acid bacteria and Clostridia, and for odour prevention, try high initial aeration rate and recycled compost as additive.
