Journal ArticleDOI
Cronobacter gen. nov., a new genus to accommodate the biogroups of Enterobacter sakazakii, and proposal of Cronobacter sakazakii gen. nov., comb. nov., Cronobacter malonaticus sp. nov., Cronobacter turicensis sp. nov., Cronobacter muytjensii sp. nov., Cronobacter dublinensis sp. nov., Cronobacter genomospecies 1, and of three subspecies, Cronobacter dublinensis subsp. dublinensis subsp. nov., Cronobacter dublinensis subsp. lausannensis subsp. nov. and Cronobacter dublinensis subsp. lactaridi subsp. nov.
Carol Iversen,Niall Mullane,B. A. McCardell,Ben D. Tall,Angelika Lehner,Séamus Fanning,Roger Stephan,Han Joosten +7 more
TL;DR: This study further clarifies the taxonomy of isolates described as [E.] sakazakii and completes the formal description of the proposed reclassification of these organisms as novel species and subspecies within a proposed novel genus, Cronobacter gen. nov.
Journal ArticleDOI
Low-water activity foods: increased concern as vehicles of foodborne pathogens
Larry R. Beuchat,Evangelia Komitopoulou,Harry Beckers,Roy P. Betts,F Bourdichon,Séamus Fanning,Han Joosten,Benno H. ter Kuile +7 more
TL;DR: Observations on survival and persistence of foodborne pathogens in low-a(w) foods, selected outbreaks of illnesses associated with consumption of these foods, and approaches to minimize safety risks are presented.
Journal ArticleDOI
The taxonomy of Enterobacter sakazakii: proposal of a new genus Cronobacter gen. nov. and descriptions of Cronobacter sakazakii comb. nov. Cronobacter sakazakii subsp. sakazakii, comb. nov., Cronobacter sakazakii subsp. malonaticus subsp. nov., Cronobacter turicensis sp. nov., Cronobacter muytjensii sp. nov., Cronobacter dublinensis sp. nov. and Cronobacter genomospecies 1
Carol Iversen,Carol Iversen,Angelika Lehner,Niall Mullane,Eva Bidlas,Ilse Cleenwerck,John Marugg,Séamus Fanning,Roger Stephan,Han Joosten +9 more
TL;DR: The taxonomic relationship of E. sakazakii was further investigated in this article, where the species was defined in 1980, 15 biogroups were described and it was suggested that these could represent multiple species.
Journal ArticleDOI
Detection, growth, and amine-producing capacity of lactobacilli in cheese.
Han Joosten,M. D. Northolt +1 more
TL;DR: Cheesemaking experiments using a low inoculum concentration of the histidinedecarboxylating L. buchneri strain St2A showed that, under conditions of accelerated proteolysis, histamine may accumulate rapidly; after 3 months of ripening, 410 mg/kg was found.
Journal ArticleDOI
Production of ochratoxin A by Aspergillus carbonarius on coffee cherries.
TL;DR: Robusta coffee cherries collected before and during sun drying from two coffee farms in Thailand were examined for moulds producing ochratoxin A (OA), and Aspergillus ochraceus was only detected in one sample, whereas As pergillus carbonarius was isolated from 7 out of 14 samples.
