TL;DR: It is shown that loss of Phd1 lowers oxygen consumption in skeletal muscle by reprogramming glucose metabolism from oxidative to more anaerobic ATP production through activation of a Pparα pathway.
Journal ArticleDOI
Do digestive enzymes set a physiological limit on growth rate and food conversion efficiency in the Atlantic cod (Gadus morhua)
TL;DR: The conclusion is that, at the level of digestion, trypsin is the only enzyme measured that could be suspected to potentially limit growth rate in cod.
Journal ArticleDOI
Mitochondrial respiratory control and early defects of oxidative phosphorylation in the failing human heart
TL;DR: Targeting the involvement of mitochondrial dysfunction in the development of human heart failure with metabolic therapy may offer a promising approach to delay the progression of heart disease.
Journal ArticleDOI
Antiproliferative effects of local anesthetics on mesenchymal stem cells: potential implications for tumor spreading and wound healing.
Eliana Lucchinetti,Ahmed E. Awad,Mamoona Rahman,Jianhua Feng,Phing-How Lou,Liyan Zhang,Lavinia Ionescu,Hélène Lemieux,Bernard Thébaud,Michael Zaugg +9 more
TL;DR: These experiments provide novel rationales for the perioperative use of local anesthetics in patients with cancer but also highlight the potentially detrimental effects of localAnesthetics on wound healing.
Journal ArticleDOI
Mitochondria in the human heart.
Hélène Lemieux,Charles L. Hoppel +1 more
TL;DR: This review is aimed at specific evaluation of the human heart in terms of methods to understand mitochondrial function, with particular emphasis on integrated function, and possible applications of this knowledge in the treatment of patients with cardiac disease.
