Basics of qualitative research: Grounded theory procedures and techniques

Deposits of clastic carbonate-dominated (calciclastic) sedimentary slope systems in the rock record have been identified mostly as linearly-consistent carbonate apron deposits, even though most ancient clastic carbonate slope deposits fit the submarine fan systems better. Calciclastic submarine fans are consequently rarely described and are poorly understood. Subsequently, very little is known especially in mud-dominated calciclastic submarine fan systems. Presented in this study are a sedimentological core and petrographic characterisation of samples from eleven boreholes from the Lower Carboniferous of Bowland Basin (Northwest England) that reveals a >250 m thick calciturbidite complex deposited in a calciclastic submarine fan setting. Seven facies are recognised from core and thin section characterisation and are grouped into three carbonate turbidite sequences. They include: 1) Calciturbidites, comprising mostly of highto low-density, wavy-laminated bioclast-rich facies; 2) low-density densite mudstones which are characterised by planar laminated and unlaminated muddominated facies; and 3) Calcidebrites which are muddy or hyper-concentrated debrisflow deposits occurring as poorly-sorted, chaotic, mud-supported floatstones. Data Mining Practical Machine Learning Tools and Techniques

How has Japan become a major economic power, a world leader in the automotive and electronics industries? What is the secret of their success? The consensus has been that, though the Japanese are not particularly innovative, they are exceptionally skilful at imitation, at improving products that already exist. The knowledge-creating company : how Japanese companies create the dynamics of innovation

It is common understanding that human-computer interaction (HCI) systems should be designed unified. However, ensuring a unified interaction design (UID) is a cost intensive and time-consuming venture. Especially the automotive industry struggles with exceeding costs and time-to-market pressure as drivers want to stay connected and informed while driving. Therefore, we investigated the effect of non-unified interaction design (NUID). We report on a simulator study with 44 participants in which we studied the effect of a NUID within an automotive HCI system consisting of five in-car pplications. We measured the effect on driving performance, task performance and situational awareness when carrying out tasks. We found no significant effect of UIDs. We offer an explanation based on HCI and cognitive ergonomics literature.

Effect of non-Unified Interaction Design of in-car Applications on Driving Performance, Situational Awareness and Task Performance

This chapter introduces students to general concepts and theoretical foundations of managing risks induced by developing and using information technology (IT risks). This chapter first provides an overview of the broad nature of IT risks. We introduce categories of IT risks to illustrate its diverse and heterogeneous causes and consequences as well as possible strategies required to balance the risks and benefits of information systems. Second, we illustrate the interdisciplinary challenges that come with managing IT risks on the most researched form of IT risk, namely IT project risks. We discuss the subjectivity of IT risks, various IT risk assessment techniques, outline the process of managing IT project risks, and introduce the dynamics of IT project risks. Third, we present five perspectives on IT risks as a fruitful lens to structure the variety of topics in IT risk research. Using these five perspectives as a framework, we present the most frequently cited IT risk research papers and theories. We conclude with an IT risk research agenda that posits worthwhile avenues for advancing the understanding and control of IT risks.

Collecting, combining and processing all kinds of
data is a key element driving public sector
transformation. A conditions for this is
interoperability, referring to the ability of diverse
systems to work together, and infrastructures
facilitating these activities. In the past, the focus of
this minitrack was on infrastructure, which have
changed over time. Over time infrastructures, clouds
and open data have become more important. Current
developments results in a datafication of government.
This development is driven by the collecting of more
and more data using the Internet of Things (IoT) and
the sharing and opening of data. This results in the
need for (big) data information sharing and
processing infrastructure and capabilities. All these
developments influence many aspects of government
ranging from fraud detection to policy-making.
Administrative organizations become largely driven
by ICT and the ability to manage ICT has become key
to their successful functioning.

Introduction Open Data, Information Processing and Datification of Government

This work introduces a Performance Model Management Repository (PMMR) for component-based enterprise applications. A PMMR is a central server that allows managing performance model components in corporate environments. A key challenge when using performance models in such environments is to distribute, update and maintain them. Especially, when software components represented in performance models are under the control of different teams in an organization. Additional problems arise as soon as release cycles for their components are not synchronized. A PMMR helps to address these challenges by introducing a central repository in which different performance model component versions can be managed and maintained. Such capabilities support the collaboration of distributed teams as they can manage their performance model components independently from each other. Performance models of specific component versions can be combined into one performance model as required for the current performance evaluation. We propose to build such a PMMR using the capabilities provided by the Palladio Component Model (PCM) as meta-model and the EMFStore as underlying versioning repository.
