Kimberly A. Workowski,Laura H. Bachmann,Philip A. Chan,Christine Johnston,Christina A. Muzny,Ina U. Park,Hilary Reno,Jonathan M. Zenilman,Gail Bolan +8 more
TL;DR: These guidelines for the treatment of persons who have or are at risk for sexually transmitted infections (STIs) were updated by CDC after consultation with professionals knowledgeable in the field of STIs who met in Atlanta, Georgia, June 11-14, 2019.
Journal ArticleDOI
Randomized Trial of Lactin-V to Prevent Recurrence of Bacterial Vaginosis
Craig R. Cohen,Michael R. Wierzbicki,Audrey L. French,Sheldon R. Morris,Sara J. Newmann,Hilary Reno,Lauri Green,Steve Miller,Jonathan D. Powell,Thomas P. Parks,Anke Hemmerling +10 more
TL;DR: The use of Lactin-V after treatment with vaginal metronidazole resulted in a significantly lower incidence of recurrence of bacterial vaginosis than placebo at 12 weeks.
Journal ArticleDOI
Clinical Evaluation of the Cepheid Xpert TV Assay for Detection of Trichomonas vaginalis with Prospectively Collected Specimens from Men and Women.
Jane R. Schwebke,Charlotte A. Gaydos,Thomas E. Davis,Jeanne M. Marrazzo,D. Furgerson,Stephanie N. Taylor,B Smith,Laura H. Bachmann,Ronald Ackerman,Timothy Spurrell,Daron G. Ferris,C. A. Burnham,Hilary Reno,J Lebed,David Eisenberg,Peter R. Kerndt,Susan S. Philip,Jeanne A. Jordan,Neil B. Quigley +18 more
TL;DR: In this article, the results of a multicenter study recently conducted using the Xpert TV (T. vaginalis) assay to test specimens from both men and women were reported and on-demand results were available in as little as 40 min for positive specimens.
Journal ArticleDOI
Associations between the vaginal microbiome and Candida colonization in women of reproductive age
Brett A. Tortelli,Warren G. Lewis,Jenifer E. Allsworth,Nadum Member-Meneh,Lynne Foster,Hilary Reno,Jeffrey F. Peipert,Justin C. Fay,Amanda L. Lewis +8 more
TL;DR: In nonpregnant women, L. iners-dominant communities were significantly more likely to harbor Candida than L. crispatus-Dominant communities, suggesting that Lactobacillus species have different relationships with Candida, and in vitro experiments indicate that L. crisatus may impede Candida colonization more effectively than L iners through a greater production of lactic acid.
Journal ArticleDOI
Glycan cross-feeding supports mutualism between Fusobacterium and the vaginal microbiota
Kavita Agarwal,Lloyd S. Robinson,Somya Aggarwal,Lynne Foster,Ariel Hernandez-Leyva,Hueylie Lin,Brett A. Tortelli,Valerie P. O’Brien,Liza Miller,Andrew L. Kau,Hilary Reno,Nicole M. Gilbert,Warren G. Lewis,Amanda L. Lewis +13 more
TL;DR: Using human vaginal bacterial communities, it is demonstrated that F. nucleatum supported robust outgrowth of Gardnerella vaginalis, a major sialidase producer and one of the most abundant organisms in BV, illustrating that mutually beneficial relationships between vaginal bacteria support pathogen colonization and may help maintain features of dysbiosis.
