Journal ArticleDOI
Home Use of an Artificial Beta Cell in Type 1 Diabetes
Hood Thabit,Martin Tauschmann,Janet M Allen,Lalantha Leelarathna,Sara Hartnell,Malgorzata E Wilinska,Carlo L. Acerini,Sibylle Dellweg,Carsten Benesch,Lutz Heinemann,Julia K. Mader,Manuel Holzer,Harald Kojzar,Jane Exall,James Yong,Jennifer Pichierri,Katharine D. Barnard,Craig Kollman,Peiyao Cheng,Peter C. Hindmarsh,Fiona Campbell,Sabine Arnolds,Thomas R. Pieber,Mark L. Evans,David B. Dunger,Roman Hovorka +25 more
TL;DR: Among patients with type 1 diabetes, 12-week use of a closed-loop system, as compared with sensor-augmented pump therapy, improved glucose control, reduced hypoglycemia, and, in adults, resulted in a lower glycated hemoglobin level.
Journal ArticleDOI
Artificial pancreas treatment for outpatients with type 1 diabetes: systematic review and meta-analysis
Eleni Bekiari,Konstantinos Kitsios,Hood Thabit,Martin Tauschmann,Eleni Athanasiadou,Thomas Karagiannis,Anna-Bettina Haidich,Roman Hovorka,Apostolos Tsapas +8 more
TL;DR: Artificial pancreas systems are an efficacious and safe approach for treating outpatients with type 1 diabetes and were consistent in a subgroup analysis both for single hormone and dual hormone artificial pancrea systems.
Journal ArticleDOI
Closed-loop insulin delivery in suboptimally controlled type 1 diabetes: a multicentre, 12-week randomised trial
Martin Tauschmann,Hood Thabit,Hood Thabit,Hood Thabit,Lia Bally,Lia Bally,Janet M. Allen,Sara Hartnell,Malgorzata E Wilinska,Yue Ruan,Judy Sibayan,Craig Kollman,Peiyao Cheng,Roy W. Beck,Carlo L. Thomas,J Thomson,Deborah K. White,S Yau,J Yong +71 more
TL;DR: The effectiveness of day-and-night hybrid closed-loop insulin delivery compared with sensor-augmented pump therapy in people with suboptimally controlled type 1 diabetes aged 6 years and older was assessed.
Journal ArticleDOI
Overnight closed-loop insulin delivery in young people with type 1 diabetes: a free-living, randomized clinical trial
Roman Hovorka,Daniela Elleri,Hood Thabit,Janet M. Allen,Lalantha Leelarathna,Ranna El-Khairi,Kavita Kumareswaran,Karen Caldwell,Peter Calhoun,Craig Kollman,Helen R. Murphy,Carlo L. Acerini,Malgorzata E. Wilinska,Marianna Nodale,David B. Dunger +14 more
TL;DR: Unsupervised home use of overnight closed loop in adolescents with type 1 diabetes is safe and feasible and glucose control was improved during the day and night with fewer episodes of nocturnal hypoglycemia.
Journal ArticleDOI
Subjects with early-onset type 2 diabetes show defective activation of the skeletal muscle PGC-1α/mitofusin-2 regulatory pathway in response to physical activity.
María Isabel Hernández-Alvarez,Hood Thabit,Nicole Burns,Syed M. Shah,Imad Brema,Mensud Hatunic,Francis M. Finucane,Marc Liesa,Chiara Chiellini,Deborah Naon,Antonio Zorzano,John J. Nolan +11 more
TL;DR: It is found that subjects with early-onset type 2 diabetes show incapacity to increase Vo2max in response to chronic exercise, which suggests a defect in muscle mitochondrial response to exercise.
