Organic Reactions in Aqueous Media with a Focus on Carbon−Carbon Bond Formations: A Decade Update

Zinc oxide can be called a multifunctional material thanks to its unique physical and chemical properties. The first part of this paper presents the most important methods of preparation of ZnO divided into metallurgical and chemical methods. The mechanochemical process, controlled precipitation, sol-gel method, solvothermal and hydrothermal method, method using emulsion and microemulsion enviroment and other methods of obtaining zinc oxide were classified as chemical methods. In the next part of this review, the modification methods of ZnO were characterized. The modification with organic (carboxylic acid, silanes) and inroganic (metal oxides) compounds, and polymer matrices were mainly described. Finally, we present possible applications in various branches of industry: rubber, pharmaceutical, cosmetics, textile, electronic and electrotechnology, photocatalysis were introduced. This review provides useful information for specialist dealings with zinc oxide.

Zinc Oxide-From Synthesis to Application: A Review.

Metal–organic frameworks (MOFs), a class of hybrid materials formed by the self-assembly of polydentate bridging ligands and metal-connecting points, have been studied for a variety of applications. Recently, these materials have been scaled down to nanometer sizes, and this Account details the development of nanoscale metal–organic frameworks (NMOFs) for biomedical applications. NMOFs possess several potential advantages over conventional nanomedicines such as their structural and chemical diversity, their high loading capacity, and their intrinsic biodegradability. Under relatively mild conditions, NMOFs can be obtained as either crystalline or amorphous materials. The particle composition, size, and morphology can be easily tuned to optimize the final particle properties. Nanoscale Metal–Organic Frameworks for Biomedical Imaging and Drug Delivery

Metal–organic frameworks (MOFs), also known as porous coordination polymers (PCPs), synthesized by assembling metal ions with organic ligands have recently emerged as a new class of crystalline porous materials. The amenability to design as well as fine-tunable and uniform pore structures makes them promising materials for a variety of applications. Controllable integration of MOFs and functional materials is leading to the creation of new multifunctional composites/hybrids, which exhibit new properties that are superior to those of the individual components through the collective behavior of the functional units. This is a rapidly developing interdisciplinary research area. This review provides an overview of the significant advances in the development of diverse MOF composites reported till now with special emphases on the synergistic effects and applications of the composites. The most widely used and successful strategies for composite synthesis are also presented.

Modification of polyethersulfone (PES) by sulfonation with chlorosulfonic acid as sulfonating agent and concentrated sulfuric acid as solvent was carried out. Factors affecting the sulfonation reaction were studied, and reaction conditions for the preparation of sulfonated PES (SPES) with different degrees of sulfonation were determined. The presence of sulfonic acid groups in SPES was confirmed by FTIR and NMR spectroscopy. Thermal analysis of the SPES samples revealed higher glass transition temperatures and lower decomposition temperatures with respect to the PES.

Sulfonation of Polyethersulfone by Chlorosulfonic Acid

This paper presents a simple and low-cost method to prepare hollow silica spheres. This method is just based on a PVP-involved emulsion polymerization and subsequent sol−gel process. PVP first participated in the polymerization reaction as a stabilizer or surfactant and then played a coupling agent role in the latter process. The polystyrene particles were dissolved subsequently or simultaneously during the sol−gel coating process to form hollow silica spheres. The influence of some parameters, such as the amount of PVP, the amount of NH4OH, and the amount of TEOS on the morphology of the hollow spheres was investigated. The parameters to control over the formation of all hollow spheres were also studied.
