Journal ArticleDOI

Investigation of porosity reduction, microstructure and mechanical properties for joining of selective laser melting fabricated aluminium composite via friction stir welding

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors investigated the weldability and mechanical properties of the welds by evaluating their chemical composition, porosity, weld microstructure evolution, micro-hardness and tensile strength.
Journal ArticleDOI

Influence of pulse energy density in micro laser weld of crack sensitive Al alloy sheets

TL;DR: In this article, the role of process parameters on the crack formation of Al alloy was investigated and the weld quality in terms of weld geometry, weld microstructure, formation of weld defect, shear strength, fracture mechanism of welds, and micro-segregation in welds were systematically investigated.
Journal ArticleDOI

Hybrid laser-TIG welding of dissimilar ferrous steels: 10 mm thick low carbon steel to 304 austenitic stainless steel

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors investigated the relationship between the heat sources' location, metallurgical transmutations and mechanical properties of welds by simulation and experimental methods and found that better weld quality was achieved when the heat source were placed on the interface of welding materials as compared to having an offset to the stainless steel side.
Journal ArticleDOI

Joining of 3D-printed AlSi10Mg by friction stir welding

TL;DR: In this paper, a significant decrease in microhardness in the stir zone was observed with the lowest hardness at approximately 3mm from the weld centre, mainly attributed to the dissolution of hardening precipitates in the aluminium matrix.
Journal ArticleDOI

Effect of nAl2O3 on the part density and microstructure during the laser-based powder bed fusion of AlSi10Mg composite

TL;DR: In this article, an experimental approach was used to investigate the densification of AlSi10Mg-nAl2O3 composites using laser-based powder bed fusion technique.
