Galectin-3: A novel antiapoptotic molecule with a functional BH1 (NWGR) domain of Bcl-2 family

TL;DR: It is demonstrated that expression of galectin-3 in human breast carcinoma BT549 cells inhibits cis-diamminedichloroplatinum (cisplatin)-induced poly(ADP-ribose) polymerase degradation and apoptosis, without altering B cl-2, Bcl-X(L), or Bax expressions.
Journal ArticleDOI

Novel functions of TIMPs in cell signaling.

TL;DR: Both the MMP-dependent and -independent actions of TIMPs for theregulation of cell death, cell proliferation, and angiogenesis are reviewed, with a particular emphasis on TIMP-1 in the regulation of tetraspanin/integrin-mediated cell survival signal transduction pathways.
Journal Article

CD29 and CD7 Mediate Galectin-3-Induced Type II T-Cell Apoptosis

TL;DR: It is reported that secreted extracellular Gal-3 can signal apoptosis of human T leukemia cell lines, human peripheral blood mononuclear cells, and activated mouse T cells after binding to cell surface glycoconjugate receptors through carbohydrate-dependent interactions because the apoptotic effect was found to be inhibited by lactose, specific sugar inhibitor, and to be dose dependent.
Journal ArticleDOI

miR-200 Regulates PDGF-D-Mediated Epithelial-Mesenchymal Transition, Adhesion, and Invasion of Prostate Cancer Cells

TL;DR: It is concluded that PDGF‐D‐induced acquisition of the EMT phenotype in PC3 cells is, in part, a result of repression of miR‐200 and that any novel strategy by which miR•200 could be upregulated would become a promising approach for the treatment of invasive prostate cancer.
Journal ArticleDOI

Galectin-3 translocates to the perinuclear membranes and inhibits cytochrome c release from the mitochondria. A role for synexin in galectin-3 translocation.

TL;DR: The results suggest that synexin mediates galectin-3 translocation to the perinuclear mitochondrial membranes, where it regulates mitochondrial integrity critical for apoptosis regulation.
