Journal ArticleDOI
Up-regulation of aldose reductase expression mediated by phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase/Akt and Nrf2 is involved in the protective effect of curcumin against oxidative damage
Eun Sil Kang,Im Sun Woo,Hyo Jung Kim,So Young Eun,Kyung Shin Paek,Hye Jung Kim,Ki Churl Chang,Jae Heun Lee,Hoon Taek Lee,Jin-Hoi Kim,Toru Nishinaka,Chihiro Yabe-Nishimura,Han Geuk Seo +12 more
TL;DR: The activation of PI3K and p38 MAPK by curcumin augmented the expression of the AR gene via Nrf2, and increased AR activity may be an important cellular response against oxidative stress.
Journal ArticleDOI
Transforming Growth Factor-β1 Is a Molecular Target for the Peroxisome Proliferator-Activated Receptor δ
Hyo Jung Kim,Sun Ah Ham,Sung Uk Kim,Jin-Yong Hwang,Jae-Hwan Kim,Ki Churl Chang,Chihiro Yabe-Nishimura,Jin-Hoi Kim,Han Geuk Seo +8 more
TL;DR: The presence of a novel TGF-&bgr;1–mediated pathway in the antiinflammatory activities of PPAR&dgr; is demonstrated, whereas the expression of proinflammatory genes including monocyte chemoattractant protein-1 was significantly attenuated in the thoracic aorta.
Journal ArticleDOI
Substrate-induced up-regulation of aldose reductase by methylglyoxal, a reactive oxoaldehyde elevated in diabetes.
Ki Churl Chang,Kyung Shin Paek,Hyo Jung Kim,Young Soo Lee,Chihiro Yabe-Nishimura,Han Geuk Seo +5 more
TL;DR: Observations indicated that substrate-induced induction of AR by MG during hyperglycemic conditions may hinder vascular remodeling and accelerate the development of vascular lesions in diabetes.
Journal ArticleDOI
Peroxisome Proliferator-Activated Receptor δ Regulates Extracellular Matrix and Apoptosis of Vascular Smooth Muscle Cells Through the Activation of Transforming Growth Factor-β1/Smad3
Hyo Jung Kim,Minyoung Kim,Hana Jin,Hyun Joon Kim,Sang Soo Kang,Hye Jung Kim,Jae Heun Lee,Ki Churl Chang,Jin-Yong Hwang,Chihiro Yabe-Nishimura,Jin-Hoi Kim,Han Geuk Seo +11 more
TL;DR: It is demonstrated that peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor (PPAR)&dgr; regulates extracellular matrix synthesis and degradation through transforming growth factor-β1 and its effector, Smad3, and suggested that PPAR-induced upregulation of extraceocytes exerts an antiapoptotic effect, thereby maintaining the stability of atherosclerotic plaques.
Journal ArticleDOI
Ran suppresses paclitaxel-induced apoptosis in human glioblastoma cells
Im Sun Woo,Han-Su Jang,So Young Eun,Hyo Jung Kim,Sun Ah Ham,Hye Jung Kim,Jae Heun Lee,Ki Churl Chang,Jin-Hoi Kim,Chang Woo Han,Han Geuk Seo +10 more
TL;DR: Results suggest that Ran suppresses paclitaxel-induced cell death through the downregulation of JNK-mediated signal pathways.
