Thyroid cancer risk to children calculated
Peter Jacob,G. Goulko,W. F. Heidenreich,I. A. Likhtarev,I A Kairo,N D Tronko,T Bogdanova,J. Kenigsberg,E. Buglova,Vladimir Drozdovitch,A. Golovneva,E P Demidchik,Mikhail Balonov,Irina Zvonova,Valerie Beral +14 more
TL;DR: The Chernobyl reactor accident was followed by a sharp increase in the incidence of thyroid cancer among children and adolescents in Belarus and Ukraine, and from the data set compiled after this incident the increased risk of developing thyroid cancer after exposure to radioactive iodine was estimated.
Journal ArticleDOI
A Cohort Study of Thyroid Cancer and Other Thyroid Diseases after the Chornobyl Accident: Objectives, Design and Methods
Valentin A. Stezhko,E. Buglova,Larissa I. Danilova,Valentina M. Drozd,Nikolaj A. Krysenko,Nadia R. Lesnikova,Victor Minenko,Vladislav A. Ostapenko,Sergey Petrenko,Olga Polyanskaya,Valery A. McConnell,Jacob Robbins,Terry L. Thomas,Paul G. Voillequé,Lydia B. Zablotska +36 more
TL;DR: An ongoing cohort study being conducted in Belarus and Ukraine that includes 25,161 subjects under the age of 18 years in 1986 who are being screened for thyroid diseases every 2 years will enable fitting appropriate dose–response models, which are important in both radiation epidemiology and public health for prediction of risks from exposure to radioactive iodine from medical sources and any future nuclear accidents.
Journal ArticleDOI
The First International Intercomparison of EPR-dosimetry with Teeth: First Results
Vadim V. Chumak,Ian Bailiff,N. P. Baran,A. A. Bugai,S. Dubovsky,I.M. Fedosov,V. Finin,Edwin H. Haskell,Robert B. Hayes,Alexander Ivannikov,Gerry H. Kenner,V. Kirillov,L.G. Khamidova,S. Vaher,Albrecht Wieser +28 more
TL;DR: Peculiarities of experimental approaches are discussed systematically in terms of procedure for recording the EPR-spectra, determination of the amplitude of the radiation induced signal, determinationof the dose, and error propagation.
