H. Geissel,P. Armbruster,K.-H. Behr,A. Brünle,K. Burkard,M. Chen,H. Folger,B. Franczak,H. Keller,O. Klepper,B. Langenbeck,F. Nickel,E. Pfeng,M. Pfützner,E. Roeckl,K. P. Rykaczewski,I. Schall,Dieter Schardt,C. Scheidenberger,K.-H. Schmidt,A. Schröter,Th. Schwab,K. Sümmerer,Max Weber,G. Münzenberg,T. Brohm,H.-G. Clerc,Michael Fauerbach,J.-J. Gaimard,A. Grewe,E. Hanelt,B. Knödler,M. Steiner,Burkart Voss,J. Weckenmann,C. Ziegler,A. Magel,Hermann Wollnik,J.P. Dufour,Yoshitaka Fujita,D.J. Vieira,B. M. Sherrill +41 more
TL;DR: The projectile fragment separator FRS designed for research and applied studies with relativistic heavy ions was installed at GSI as a part of the new high-energy SIS/ESR accelerator facility as mentioned in this paper.
Journal ArticleDOI
Charge-changing nuclear reactions of relativistic light-ion beams (5 ≤ Z ≤ 10) passing through thick absorbers☆
I. Schall,Dieter Schardt,Hans Geissel,H. Irnich,E. Kankeleit,Gerhard Kraft,A. Magel,M. F. Mohar,G. Münzenberg,F. Nickel,C. Scheidenberger,W. Schwab +11 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the nuclear charge composition of the fragmented beam was measured via energy loss in a large-area ionisation chamber, and the elemental fragment yields were measured down to Z = 5.
Journal ArticleDOI
Nuclear fragmentation of high-energy heavy-ion beams in water.
D. Schardt,I. Schall,H Geissel,H. Irnich,G. Kraft,A. Magel,M. Mohar,G. Münzenberg,F. Nickel,C. Scheidenberger,W. Schwab,Lembit Sihver +11 more
TL;DR: Investigation of nuclear fragmentation of high-energy ion beams delivered by the heavy-ion synchrotron SIS, using water as a tissue-equivalent target finds the detailed shape of the measured Bragg curves and the measured cross sections are in good agreement with model calculations based on semi-empirical formulae.
Journal ArticleDOI
Direct observation of systematic deviations from the Bethe stopping theory for relativistic heavy ions.
C. Scheidenberger,Hans Geissel,H. H. Mikkelsen,F. Nickel,T. Brohm,H. Folger,H. Irnich,A. Magel,M. F. Mohar,G. Münzenberg,M. Pfützner,E. Roeckl,I. Schall,Dieter Schardt,K.-H. Schmidt,W. Schwab,M. Steiner,Th. Stöhlker,K. Sümmerer,D. J. Vieira,Bernd Voss,Max Weber +21 more
TL;DR: The SIS accelerator facilities at GSI in combination with a magnetic spectrometer allow the direct measurement of stopping powers for relativistic heavy ions up to uranium with high precision for the first time.
Journal ArticleDOI
New neutron-rich isotopes in the scandium-to-nickel region, produced by fragmentation of a 500 MeV/u 86 Kr beam
Max Weber,C. Donzaud,J.P. Dufour,Hans Geissel,A. Grewe,D. Guillemaud-Mueller,H. Keller,M. Lewitowicz,A. Magel,A.C. Mueller,G. Münzenberg,F. Nickel,M. Pfützner,A. Piechaczek,M.S. Pravikoff,E. Roeckl,K. P. Rykaczewski,M. G. Saint-Laurent,I. Schall,C. Stephan,K. Sümmerer,L. Tassan-Got,D. J. Vieira,Bernd Voss +23 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors measured production cross-sections of the new neutron-rich isotopes58Ti,61V,63Cr,66Mn,69Fe,71Co and neighbouring isotopes that have been identified as projectile fragments from reactions between a 500 MeV/u86Kr beam and a beryllium target.
