Journal ArticleDOI

Concentrating Immunoprotective Phytoactive Compounds from Fruits and Vegetables into Shelf-stable Protein-rich Ingredients

TL;DR: Neither total phenolics nor glucosinolates were significantly diminished even after long term storage at 4, 20, or 37 °C, whereas carotenoids degraded over time, particularly at higher temperatures.
Journal ArticleDOI

The DESIGNER Approach Helps Decipher the Hypoglycemic Bioactive Principles of Artemisia dracunculus (Russian Tarragon).

TL;DR: This is the first report of generating, at a sufficiently large preparative scale, a "knock-out extract" used as a pharmacological tool for in vitro and in vivo studies to dissect the biological impact of a designated bioactive in a complex phytochemical mixture.
Journal ArticleDOI

Antiplasmodial activity of cucurbitacin glycosides from Datisca glomerata (C. Presl) Baill

TL;DR: The traditionally used antimalarial plant, Datisca glomerata (C. Presl) Baill, was subjected to antiplasmodial assay guided fractionation, which led to the isolation of seven cucurbitacin glycosides, datiscosides I-O, along with two known compounds from the aerial parts of D. glomersata, which displayed cytotoxicity against L6 but not CHO mammalian cells.
Journal ArticleDOI

Tobacco ribosomal DNA spacer element elevates Bowman–Birk inhibitor expression in tomato plants

TL;DR: It is demonstrated that aps element also affects integration, transcription, and translation of a soybean protease inhibitor, Bowman–Birk inhibitor, in transgenic tomato plants and quantifies its effects in different expression vectors.
