Duncan Steele,Adam L. Cohen,Fatima Serhan,Eric R. Houpt +39 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors performed quantitative polymerase chain reaction for multiple enteropathogens on 878 acute watery diarrheal stools sampled from 14643 episodes captured by surveillance of children <5 years of age during 2013-2014 from 16 countries.
Journal ArticleDOI
Rotavirus genotype distribution after vaccine introduction, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Filipe Anibal Carvalho-Costa,Irene Trigueiros Araújo,Rosane Maria Santos de Assis,Alexandre Madi Fialho,Carolina Maria Miranda de Assis Martins,Márcio Neves Bóia,José Paulo Gagliardi Leite +6 more
TL;DR: Brazil introduced rotavirus vaccination in March 2006 andRotavirus detection rate decreased from 38% in 2005 to 24% in 2007 (p = 0.012), and Genotype G2P was found in 1.4% of samples in 2005, in 44% in 2006, and in 96% in2007.
Journal ArticleDOI
Detection of a neonatal human rotavirus strain with VP4 and NSP4 genes of porcine origin.
Joana D'Arc Pereira Mascarenhas,José Paulo Gagliardi Leite,Jackson C. Lima,Marcos Bryan Heinemann,Darleise de Souza Oliveira,Irene Trigueiros Araújo,Luana da Silva Soares,Rosa Helena P Gusmão,Yvone Benchimol Gabbay,Alexandre da Costa Linhares +9 more
TL;DR: This is believed to be the first report in Brazil of a rotavirus infection involving a strain with G1 and G4 alleles, with VP8* and NSP4 genes of porcine origin, with the occurrence of interspecies transmission.
Journal ArticleDOI
Brazilian P[8],G1, P[8],G5, P[8],G9, and P[4],G2 rotavirus strains: Nucleotide sequence and phylogenetic analysis
Irene Trigueiros Araújo,Rosane Maria Santos de Assis,Alexandre Madi Fialho,Joana D'Arc Pereira Mascarenhas,Marcos Bryan Heinemann,José Paulo Gagliardi Leite +5 more
TL;DR: The findings document an intragenotype diversity represented by lineages and sublineages within rotavirus circulating in Rio de Janeiro from 1986 to 2004, before application of a vaccine (Rotarix®) in Brazil.
Journal ArticleDOI
Rotavirus strain diversity in Rio de Janeiro Brazil: characterization of VP4 and VP7 genotypes in hospitalized children.
Irene Trigueiros Araújo,Alexandre Madi Fialho,Rosane Maria Santos de Assis,Mirna Rocha,Márcia Galvão,Cristiane M. Cruz,Mônica Simões Rocha Ferreira,José Paulo Gagliardi Leite +7 more
TL;DR: The contribution of the results obtained in the present investigation corroborates the required epidemiological surveillance for rotavirus infection in Brazil.
