Duncan Steele,Adam L. Cohen,Fatima Serhan,Eric R. Houpt +39 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors performed quantitative polymerase chain reaction for multiple enteropathogens on 878 acute watery diarrheal stools sampled from 14643 episodes captured by surveillance of children <5 years of age during 2013-2014 from 16 countries.
Journal ArticleDOI
Field evaluation of a schistosome circulating cathodic antigen rapid test kit at point-of-care for mapping of schistosomiasis endemic districts in The Gambia.
Bakary Sanneh,Ebrima Joof,Abdoulie M. Sanyang,Kristen Renneker,Yaya Camara,Alhagie Papa Sey,Sheriffo Jagne,Ignatius Baldeh,Serign J. Ceesay,Sana Sambou,Kisito Ogoussan +10 more
TL;DR: This study showed lower sensitivity of POC-CCA in detecting S. haematobium and S. mansoni infections in field and laboratory settings, and therefore POC -CCA is less useful for rapid diagnosis of urinary schistosomiasis.
Journal ArticleDOI
Impact of pentavalent rotavirus vaccine against severe rotavirus diarrhoea in The Gambia
Bakary Sanneh,Alhagie Papa Sey,Minesh P. Shah,Jacqueline E. Tate,Mariama Sonko,Sheriffo Jagne,ModouLamin Jarju,Dawda Sowe,Makie Taal,Adam L. Cohen,Umesh D. Parashar,Jason M. Mwenda +11 more
TL;DR: Rotavirus vaccine introduction in the Gambia could be among factors resulting in decreased diarrhea hospitalizations among children at the Edward Francis Small Teaching Hospital, particularly those with severe disease.
Posted ContentDOI

TL;DR: Efficient surveillance, including strengthening entry points and screening asymptomatic individuals especially during the rainy seasons would be important to promptly detect and control future waves in The Gambia and the subregion.
