ReportDOI
Protocols for the measurement, monitoring and reporting of structure, biomass and carbon stocks in mangrove forests.
J.B. Kauffman,Daniel C. Donato +1 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors describe the approaches necessary for the measurement, monitoring and reporting of structure, biomass and carbon stocks in mangrove forests, and present a biologically relevant and statistically valid approach to the efficient and accurate assessment of ecosystem structure.
Journal ArticleDOI
Post-wildfire logging hinders regeneration and increases fire risk.
Daniel C. Donato,Joseph B. Fontaine,Joseph B. Fontaine,John Campbell,John Campbell,W.D. Robinson,W.D. Robinson,J.B. Kauffman,J.B. Kauffman,Beverly E. Law,Beverly E. Law +10 more
TL;DR: Data is presented from a study of early conifer regeneration and fuel loads after the 2002 Biscuit Fire, Oregon, USA, with and without postfire logging, which reduced median regeneration density, significantly increased downed woody fuels, and thus increased short-term fire risk.
ReportDOI
Carbon storage in mangrove and peatland ecosystems: a preliminary account from plots in Indonesia
Daniel Murdiyarso,Daniel C. Donato,J.B. Kauffman,Sofyan Kurnianto,Melanie Stidham,Markku Kanninen +5 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors measured total ecosystem C storage (above and below ground) in mangrove ecosystems in North Sulawesi, Central Kalimantan and Central Java, Indonesia.
ReportDOI
Tropical wetlands for climate change adaptation and mitigation: science and policy imperatives with special reference to Indonesia
TL;DR: In this article, the state of the science, significant research needs, and potential transdisciplinary approaches necessary to implement climate change adaptation and mitigation strategies in both freshwater and coastal tropical wetlands are discussed.
MonographDOI
Protocols for the measurement, monitoring, and reporting of structure, biomass, carbon stocks and greenhouse gas emissions in tropical peat swamp forests
J.B. Kauffman,Virni Budi Arifanti,Imam Basuki,Sofyan Kurnianto,N. Novita,Daniel Murdiyarso,Daniel C. Donato,M.W. Warren +7 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors provide a convenient resource for those wishing to undertake the necessary field measurements of ecosystem C dynamics in peat swamp forests - especially C stocks, biomass, structure and fluxes.
