High Transmission through Sharp Bends in Photonic Crystal Waveguides.
TL;DR: A simple one-dimensional scattering theory model with a dynamic frequency-dependent well depth to describe the transmission properties is proposed and highly efficient transmission of light around sharp corners in photonic band-gap waveguides is demonstrated.
Journal ArticleDOI
Guided and defect modes in periodic dielectric waveguides
Abstract: The nature of guided modes and defect modes in periodic dielectric waveguides is investigated computationally for model systems in two dimensions. It is shown that defect states that exist within the band gap of guided modes can be excited to form tightly localized high-Q resonances.
Proceedings ArticleDOI
Carrier-envelope phase dynamics and noise analysis in octave-spanning Ti:sapphire lasers
TL;DR: In this paper, the intensity-related carrier-envelope phase dynamics of octave-spanning Ti:sapphire lasers were investigated, and quantitative agreement between the measured and predicted carrier-EN phase noise resulting from pump laser noise was achieved.

Microcavities in Channel Waveguides
Pierre R. Villeneuve,Shanhui Fan,J. D. Joannopoulos,Kuo-Yi Lim,J. C. Chen,Gale S. Petrich,Leslie A. Kolodziejski,Rafael Reif +7 more
TL;DR: In this article, a new type of resonant microcavity consisting of a channel waveguide and a one-dimensional photonic crystal is introduced and analyzed, and a feasibility study for the fabrication of these micro-cavities in an air-bridge configuration with micron-sized features using semiconductor materials is presented.
