Journal ArticleDOI

Prognostic Values of Tumor Necrosis Factor/Cachectin, Interleukin-l, Interferon-α, and Interferon-γ in the Serum of Patients with Septic Shock

TL;DR: In patients with septic shock due to various gram-negative bacteria, other parameters than the absolute serum concentration of immunoreactive TNF contributed significantly to the prediction of outcome.
Journal ArticleDOI

High circulating levels of interleukin-6 in patients with septic shock: Evolution during sepsis, prognostic value, and interplay with other cytokines☆

TL;DR: Results indicate that circulating levels of IL-6 are detectable in a majority of patients with gram-negative septic shock and does not appear to be a clinically useful laboratory test for predicting the outcome of an individual patient.
Journal ArticleDOI

Cytokines, nitrite/nitrate, soluble tumor necrosis factor receptors, and procalcitonin concentrations : comparisons in patients with septic shock, cardiogenic shock, and bacterial pneumonia

TL;DR: It was shown that increase of proinflammatory cytokines was a consequence of inflammation, not of shock, and measurements of NO2-/NO3- concentration and procalcitonin concentration represented the most suitable tests for defining patients with septic shock.
Journal ArticleDOI

Prevention of gram-negative shock and death in surgical patients by antibody to endotoxin core glycolipid

TL;DR: Although antibody prophylaxis did not lower the infection rate, it prevented the serious consequences of gram-negative infections and thus improved the overall prognosis.
