Journal ArticleDOI

Vitamin D metabolites and bone mineralization in man.

TL;DR: It is concluded that 1alpha,25(OH)2D3 is not the sole biologically active metabolite of vitamin D in man and that the subsequent rise in serum phosphate concentrations along with the direct actions of 1 alpha-25-hydroxyvitamin D3, 24,25 (OH) 2D3, and possibly 25(OH-D3 on bone cells all participate in the restoration of normal bone formation and bone mineralization in vitamin D-deficient man.
Journal ArticleDOI

On the pathogenesis of so-called idiopathic hypercalciuria.

TL;DR: Two subtypes of patients identified as having persistent hypercalciuria during a period of low calcium intake were divided into two subtypes on the basis of their response to the administration of methylchlorothiazide and 25-hydroxyvitamin D 3.
Journal ArticleDOI

Comparison of Intact, Midregion, and Carboxy Terminal Assays of Parathyroid Hormone for the Diagnosis of Bone Disease in Hemodialyzed Patients

TL;DR: It is concluded that the intact PTH measurement is superior to C-terminal and midregion assays for the prediction of the histological type of bone disease in hemodialyzed patients and should be of considerable value to adapt their treatment in order to avoid the emergence of both severe hyperparathyroidism and adynamic bone disease.
Journal ArticleDOI

Comparison of 1α-hydroxycholecalciferol and 25-hydroxycholecalciferol in the treatment of renal osteodystrophy: Greater effect of 25-hydroxycholecalciferol on bone mineralization

TL;DR: Large dosages of 25-OH-D 3 are concluded to induce more effectively bone mineralization in spite of a smaller increase of the P Ca × P PO 4 product and may be therefore a better treatment for a renal osteomalacia.
