TL;DR: Budesonide or prednisone in combination with ursodeoxycholic acid in primary sclerosing cholangitis in a randomized double-blind pilot study is found to be safe and effective.
Journal ArticleDOI
Duplex Doppler measurements of portal venous flow in normal subjects: Inter- and intra-observer variability
TL;DR: It is concluded that quantitative duplex Doppler measurements of portal venous flow are mainly subject to non-systematic variability, and a coefficient of variation of 24% can be expected in diagnostic measurements in a single patient.
Journal ArticleDOI
Budesonide or prednisone in combination with ursodeoxycholic acid in primary sclerosing cholangitis: a randomized double-blind pilot study. Belgian-Dutch PSC Study Group.
H. J. F. Van Hoogstraten,Frank P. Vleggaar,G. J. Boland,W. Van Steenbergen,P Griffioen,Wim C. J. Hop,J. van Hattum,G. P. van Berge Henegouwen,S.W. Schalm,H.R. van Buuren +9 more
TL;DR: The results of this pilot study suggest only minor beneficial short-term effects of prednisone but not budesonide on symptoms and serum liver tests in UDCA-treated PSC patients.
Journal ArticleDOI
Relation between laboratory test results and histological hepatitis activity in individuals positive for hepatitis B surface antigen and antibodies to hepatitis B e antigen
F. ter Borg,Fjw ten Kate,Htm Cuypers,A Leentvaar-Kuijpers,J. Oosting,Pme Wertheim-van Dillen,P. Honkoop,MC Rasch,R.A. de Man,J. van Hattum,Rafm Chamuleau,H. W. Reesink,E. A. Jones +12 more
TL;DR: Patients positive for HBsAg and anti-HBe could be screened for chronic active hepatitis with a single assay and counselling of patients can be improved if proper reference values are used.
