Journal ArticleDOI
Extremely Large Variations of Atmospheric 14C Concentration During the Last Glacial Period
J. W. Beck,David Richards,R. L. Edwards,Bernard W. Silverman,P. L. Smart,Douglas J. Donahue,S Hererra-Osterheld,George S. Burr,L Calsoyas,Ajt Jull,D. Biddulph +10 more
TL;DR: Carbon cycle models suggest that the major features of this record cannot be produced with solar or terrestrial magnetic field modulation alone but also require substantial fluctuations in the carbon cycle.
Journal ArticleDOI
Atlantic Forcing of Persistent Drought in West Africa
Timothy M. Shanahan,Timothy M. Shanahan,Jonathan T. Overpeck,Kevin J. Anchukaitis,J. W. Beck,Julia E. Cole,David L. Dettman,John A. Peck,Christopher A. Scholz,John W. King +9 more
TL;DR: It is found that intervals of severe drought lasting for periods ranging from decades to centuries are characteristic of the monsoon and are linked to natural variations in Atlantic temperatures, indicating that themonsoon is capable of longer and more severe future droughts.

Marine04 Marine radiocarbon age calibration, 26 ? 0 ka BP
Konrad A Hughen,M Baille,Edouard Bard,J. W. Beck,Chanda J H Bertrand,Paul G. Blackwell,Caitlin E. Buck,George S. Burr,K. B. Cutler,Paul E. Damon,R. L. Edwards,Richard G. Fairbanks,Michael Friedrich,T. P. Guilderson,Bernd Kromer,F. G. McCormac,Sturt W. Manning,C Bronk-Ramsey,Paula J. Reimer,Ron W Reimer,Sabine Remmele,John Southon,Minze Stuiver,Sahra Talamo,Frederick W. Taylor,J der Plicht,C. E. Weyhenmeyer +26 more
TL;DR: In this article, a new radiocarbon calibration curve, IntCal04 and Marine04, have been constructed and internationally ratified to replace the terrestrial and marine components of IntCal98.
Journal ArticleDOI
Moisture variability in the southwestern United States linked to abrupt glacial climate change
TL;DR: In this paper, cave deposits from southwestern North America reveal that atmospheric moisture in this region increased in response to slowdowns of the Atlantic meridional overturning circulation during the last glacial period.
Journal ArticleDOI
NotCal04—Comparison/Calibration 14C Records 26-50 Cal Kyr BP
J. van der Plicht,J. W. Beck,Edouard Bard,M. G. L. Baillie,Paul G. Blackwell,Caitlin E. Buck,Michael Friedrich,Thomas P. Guilderson,Konrad A Hughen,Bernd Kromer,F. G. McCormac,C. Bronk Ramsey,Paula J. Reimer,Ron W Reimer,Sabine Remmele,David Richards,John Southon,Minze Stuiver,C. E. Weyhenmeyer +18 more
TL;DR: The radiocarbon calibration curve IntCal04 extends back to 26 cal kyr BP as discussed by the authors, but no high-resolution records exist beyond this limit, and these data sets exhibit discrepancies of up to several millennia.
