Extinction of Cloudina and Namacalathus at the Precambrian-Cambrian boundary in Oman

TL;DR: In this article, carbon isotope and U-Pb zircon geochronological data from the Ara Group of Oman indicate an abrupt last appearance of Cloudina and Namacalathus coincident with a large-magnitude, but short-lived negative excursion in the carbon-isotope composition of seawater that is globally coincid with the Precambrian-Cambrian boundary.
Journal ArticleDOI

The Saghand Region, Central Iran: U-Pb geochronology, petrogenesis and implications for Gondwana Tectonics

TL;DR: The Saghand area of East-Central Iran exposes rocks that comprise the substratum of the Central Iranian continental terrane, as part of the larger Alpine-Himalayan orogenic system as discussed by the authors.
Journal ArticleDOI

Geochronologic constraints on the chronostratigraphic framework of the Neoproterozoic Huqf Supergroup, Sultanate of Oman

TL;DR: In this article, U-Pb geochronologic data provided precise constraints on the age of several key stratigraphic levels in the Neoproterozoic Huqf Supergroup and its subjacent crystalline basement rocks.
Journal ArticleDOI

Dodging snowballs: Geochronology of the Gaskiers glaciation and the first appearance of the Ediacaran biota

TL;DR: In this paper, high-precision U-Pb zircon geochronology from eight tuffs from multiple distant stratigraphic sections that bracket glacial diamictites and the first appearance of large Ediacaran fossils was presented.
