Journal ArticleDOI

DNA identification of commercial ginseng samples.

TL;DR: The protocol was improved for the isolation of genomic and plastid DNA from commercial ginseng preparations by incorporating an impact homogenization step into the standard column chromatography purification procedure, and a strategy based on the direct DNA sequence analysis of the nuclear ribosomal internal transcribed spacer region was developed.
Journal ArticleDOI

Delaware Bay and Chesapeake Bay populations of the horseshoe crab Limulus polyphemus are genetically distinct

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors assessed patterns of genetic variation within and between the horseshoe crab populations of Delaware Bay and Chesapeake Bay, using both Random Amplification of Polymorphic DNA (RAPD) and DNA sequence analysis of the mitochondrial cytochrome oxidase I gene (COI).
Journal ArticleDOI

Pearl, a novel family of putative transposable elements in bivalve mollusks.

TL;DR: It is suggested that the Crassostrea repetitive elements and Ana-1 are members of a new MITE-like family of nonautonomous transposable elements, named pearl, which is the first putative nonaut autonomous DNA transposon to be identified in the phylum Mollusca.
Journal ArticleDOI

Characterization of eastern oyster (Crassostrea virginica Gmelin) chromosomes by fluorescence in situ hybridization with bacteriophage P1 clones.

TL;DR: This study shows that large-insert clones such as P1 are useful as chromosome-specific FISH probes and for gene mapping in oysters.
