Derivation of aerosol properties from satellite measurements of backscattered ultraviolet radiation: Theoretical basis

TL;DR: In this paper, the spectral variations of the backscattered radiances are used to separate aerosol absorption from scattering effects, which can be used to identify several aerosol types, ranging from nonabsorbing sulfates to highly UV-absorbing mineral dust.
Journal ArticleDOI

Near-real time retrieval of tropospheric NO 2 from OMI

TL;DR: In this paper, an algorithm for the near-real time retrieval of tropospheric NO2 columns from the Ozone Monitoring Instrument (OMI) is presented. But the method is based on the combined retrieval-assimilation-modeling approach developed at KNMI for off-line NO2 from the GOME and SCIAMACHY satellite instruments.
Journal ArticleDOI

An improved retrieval of tropospheric nitrogen dioxide from GOME

TL;DR: In this article, the authors presented a retrieval of tropospheric nitrogen dioxide (NO2) columns from the Global Ozone Monitoring Experiment (GOME) satellite instrument that improved in several ways over previous retrievals, especially in accounting of Rayleigh and cloud scattering.
