A glucosinolate metabolism pathway in living plant cells mediates broad-spectrum antifungal defense.
Paweł Bednarek,Paweł Bednarek,Mariola Piślewska-Bednarek,Mariola Piślewska-Bednarek,Aleš Svatoš,Aleš Svatoš,Bernd Schneider,Bernd Schneider,Jan Doubský,Jan Doubský,Madina Mansurova,Madina Mansurova,Matt Humphry,Matt Humphry,Chiara Consonni,Chiara Consonni,Ralph Panstruga,Ralph Panstruga,Andrea Sánchez-Vallet,Andrea Sánchez-Vallet,Antonio Molina,Antonio Molina,Paul Schulze-Lefert,Paul Schulze-Lefert +23 more
TL;DR: It is proposed that reiterated enzymatic cycles, controlling the generation of toxic molecules and their detoxification, enable the recruitment of glucosinolates in defense responses.

A Deceptive Pollination System Targeting Drosophilids through Olfactory Mimicry of Yeast
Johannes Stökl,Johannes Stökl,Antonia Strutz,Amots Dafni,Aleš Svatoš,Jan Doubský,Markus Knaden,Silke Sachse,Bill S. Hansson,Marcus C. Stensmyr +9 more
TL;DR: This work presents the first description of a deceptive pollination system that specifically targets drosophilid flies, and shows that the examined plant accomplishes its deception through olfactory mimicry of fermentation, a strategy that represents a novel pollination syndrome.
