TL;DR: Application of Raman microspectroscopy to investigate kerogen, bitumen, fossils, highly carbonified amorphous carbon as well as graphite from different environments is reviewed and differences in Raman spectra and structural differences between carbonaceous samples differing in their metamorphic history are discussed.
