Journal ArticleDOI
Short report: differences in dihydrofolate reductase but not dihydropteroate synthase alleles in Plasmodium falciparum isolates from geographically distinct areas in Malaysia.
Janet Cox-Singh,Robaiza Zakaria,Mohd Shukri Abdullah,Hasan A. Rahman,Sethu Nagappan,Balbir Singh +5 more
TL;DR: The difference in dhfr allele frequency between the two populations was highly significant and there was no correlation between in vitro PYR response and accumulation of dhfr point mutations.
Journal ArticleDOI
Treatment of Uncomplicated Falciparum Malaria in Southern Vietnam: Can Chloroquine or Sulfadoxine-Pyrimethamine Be Reintroduced in Combination with Artesunate?
Nguyen Mai Huong,Timothy M. E. Davis,Timothy M. E. Davis,Janet Cox-Singh,Sean Hewitt,Tran Quoc Toan,Tran Bach Kim,Nguyen Thi Hanh,Vo Nhu Phuong,Doan Hanh Nhan,Le Dinh Cong +10 more
TL;DR: The effectiveness of chloroquine or sulfadoxine-pyrimethamine administered with artesunate for treating uncomplicated falciparum malaria was assessed in 2 Vietnamese provinces where the sensitivity of parasites in vitro to conventional therapies had increased with the removal of drug pressure.
Journal ArticleDOI
Plasmodium knowlesi: experimental model, zoonotic pathogen and golden opportunity?
TL;DR: While P. knowlesi has other unique features when compared to the other human-host adapted Plasmodium species, the most striking is binding of P. falciparum-infected red blood cells to host endothelium, recently reviewed.
Journal ArticleDOI
Micro-geographic risk factors for malarial infection
Ward P Myers,Ward P Myers,Andrea Pomrehn Myers,Janet Cox-Singh,Hui C Lau,Benny Mokuai,Richard Malley +6 more
TL;DR: It is suggested that malarial infection is significantly and independently associated with lower elevation and greater distance from administrative centre in a rural area in PNG.
Journal ArticleDOI
Comparison of Artemether-Lumefantrine with Sulfadoxine-Pyrimethamine for the Treatment of Uncomplicated Falciparum Malaria in Eastern Nepal
Suman Thapa,Judith Hollander,Mary Linehan,Janet Cox-Singh,Mahendra Bahadur Bista,Garib Das Thakur,Wendy A. Davis,Timothy M. E. Davis +7 more
TL;DR: AL is more effective than SP for uncomplicated malaria in Nepal, but regular monitoring of its efficacy should be carried out if this combination therapy is introduced.
