Development and mapping of microsatellite (SSR) markers in wheat.
Qijian Song,Qijian Song,Jianrong Shi,Sukhwinder Singh,Edward W. Fickus,Jose M. Costa,Janet M. Lewis,Bikram S. Gill,Richard W. Ward,Perry B. Cregan +9 more
TL;DR: The efficiency of marker development could be increased in wheat by creating libraries from sheared rather than enzyme-digested DNA fragments for microsatellite screening, by focusing on microsatellites with the [ATT/TAA]n motif, and by adding an untemplated G-C clamp to the 5′-end of primers.
Journal ArticleDOI
Near- to long-term measures to stabilize global wheat supplies and food security
Alison R. Bentley,Jason Donovan,Kai Sonder,Frédéric Baudron,Janet M. Lewis,Rachel C. Voss,Pieter Rutsaert,Nigel Poole,Sophien Kamoun,Diane G. O. Saunders,David Hodson,David P. Hughes,Christine Negra,Maria Itria Ibba,Sieglinde S. Snapp,Tesfaye Shiferaw Sida,Moti Jaleta,Kindie Tesfaye,Inbal Becker-Reshef,Bram Govaerts +19 more
TL;DR: In this paper , the authors propose responses to a multi-layered global food crisis that mitigate near-term food security risks, stabilize wheat supplies and transition towards long-term agri-food system resilience.
Journal ArticleDOI
Characterization of Resistance to Fusarium graminearum in a Recombinant Inbred Line Population of Wheat: Resistance to Fungal Spread, Mycotoxin Accumulation, and Grain Yield Loss, and Trait Relationships
TL;DR: Three types of FHB resistance were investigated, i.e., resistance to fungal spread within spikes, deoxynivalenol accumulation, and grain yield loss, which exhibited a large and continuous variation in the RIL population, and thus was inherited quantitatively.
Journal ArticleDOI
Registration of ‘Ambassador’ Wheat
Janet M. Lewis,Lee Siler,Edward Souza,Perry K.W. Ng,Yanhong Dong,Gina Brown-Guedira,Guo-Liang Jiang,Richard W. Ward +7 more
TL;DR: The name was chosen because Ambassador's performance excels in both the United States (Michigan) and Canada (Ontario), bringing together white- wheat growers on both sides of the border.
Journal ArticleDOI
Evaluation of α-Amylase Activity and Falling Number around Maturity for Soft White and Soft Red Wheat Varieties in Michigan
N. Yu,N. Yu,R. Laurenz,Lee Siler,Perry K.W. Ng,E. Souza,E. Souza,Janet M. Lewis,Janet M. Lewis +8 more
TL;DR: A reference level of α-amylase activity and the corresponding Falling Number (FN) value near the time of PM of selected red and white cultivars in the absence of PHS inducing conditions is determined.
