Duration of human immunodeficiency virus infection before detection of antibody.
C. Robert Horsburgh,Janine Jason,Ira M. Longini,Kenneth H. Mayer,Gerald Schochetman,George W. Rutherford,George R. Seage,Chin-Yih Ou,Scott D. Holmberg,Charles A. Schable,Alan R. Lifson,John W. Ward,Bruce L. Evatt,Harold W. Jaffe +13 more
TL;DR: To estimate the duration and frequency of the period of HIV infection without detectable antibody, modelling techniques were applied to results of detection of HIV DNA by means of the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and to data from cases in published reports.
Journal ArticleDOI
Pseudomonas cepacia colonization in patients with cystic fibrosis: risk factors and clinical outcome.
Ofelia C. Tablan,Ofelia C. Tablan,Terence L. Chorba,Terence L. Chorba,Daniel V. Schidlow,Daniel V. Schidlow,John W. White,John W. White,Karen A. Hardy,Karen A. Hardy,Peter H. Gilligan,Peter H. TL;DR: The results of this investigation suggest that P. cepacia colonization of patients with CF was endemic in the hospital, occurred more frequently in those with severe disease, and was associated with adverse clinical outcome.
Journal ArticleDOI
Mortality and infectious disease associated with infant-feeding practices in developing countries.
TL;DR: This review of studies among populations in developing countries found the evidence for an important protective effect of breast-feeding against infectious illness to be much stronger than previously found.
Journal ArticleDOI
The Role of Parvovirus B19 in Aplastic Crisis and Erythema Infectiosum (Fifth Disease)
Terence Chorba,Peter F. Coccia,Robert C. Holman,P. Tattersall,Larry J. Anderson,Jon H. Sudman,Neal S. Young,Elizabeth M. Kurczynski,Ulla M. Saarinen,Robyn Moir,Dale N. Lawrence,Janine Jason,Bruce L. Evatt +12 more
TL;DR: The hypothesis that infection with parvovirus causes aplastic crisis and erythema infectiosum is supported with results support the epidemiology and spectrum of B19 infection with geographically and temporally matched comparison groups.
Journal ArticleDOI
HTLV-III/LAV antibody and immune status of household contacts and sexual partners of persons with hemophilia.
Janine Jason,J. S. Mcdougal,Gloria R. Dixon,Dale N. Lawrence,Kennedy Ms,Margaret W. Hilgartner,Louis M. Aledort,Bruce L. Evatt +7 more
TL;DR: It is concluded that risk of HTLV-III/LAV transmission may exist for spouses and/or sexual contacts of hemophiliacs with AIDS/ARC, but the risk for contacts of asymptomatic hemophiliaacs cannot now be determined.
