Fast atom bombardment mass spectrometry for structural elucidation of glycoconjugates
Heinz Egge,Jasna Peter-Katalinic +1 more
Journal ArticleDOI
Teichoic acid and lipoteichoic acid of Streptococcus pneumoniae possess identical chain structures
TL;DR: On the basis of compositional analysis, fast-atom-bombardment mass spectrometry and NMR spectroscopy the following structure is proposed: teichoic acid (C polysaccharide) where AATGal is 2-acetamido-4-amino-2,4,6-trideoxy-D-galactose and the repeating units are linked to each other by phosphodiester bonds.
Journal ArticleDOI
The structure of pneumococcal lipoteichoic acid. Improved preparation, chemical and mass spectrometric studies.
TL;DR: Pneumococcal lipoteichoic acid was extracted and purified by a novel, quick and effective procedure and preliminary results suggest that repeating units II and IV are enriched in separate molecular species.
Journal ArticleDOI
MUC1 Glycoforms in Breast Cancer
TL;DR: The expression of secretory MUC1 glycoforms was inconsistent based on the decreasing contents of sialic acid and on the concomitant increase of immunodetectable TF antigen and the buoyant densities measured in CsCl gradients revealed heterogeneity of the physicochemical species and a significant reduction of their carbohydrate contents compared to M UC1 from skim milk.
Journal ArticleDOI
Structure of the monosialyl oligosaccharides derived from salivary gland mucin glycoproteins of the Chinese swiftlet (genus Collocalia). Characterization of novel types of extended core structure, Gal beta(1----3)[GlcNAc beta(1----6)] GalNAc alpha(1----3)GalNAc(-ol), and of chain termination, [Gal alpha(1----4)]0-1[Gal beta(1----4)]2GlcNAc beta(1----.).

TL;DR: In this article, the structures of the monosialyl oligosaccharides were established by combination of sugar and methylation analysis, fast atom bombardment mass spectrometry, and electron impact-mass spectrometer after permethylation and 1H NMR spectroscopy (at 500 MHz).
