Journal ArticleDOI
Angiostrongylus vasorum infection in 23 dogs (1999–2002)
TL;DR: A vasorum should now be considered endemic to south-east England after a variety of changes were observed, the most typical being a patchy alveolar-interstitial pattern affecting the dorsocaudal lung fields.
Journal ArticleDOI
Risk factors for clinical endometritis in postpartum dairy cattle.
T J Potter,Javier Guitian,John Fishwick,Patrick J. Gordon,I. Martin Sheldon,I. Martin Sheldon +5 more
TL;DR: The dominant association between retained fetal membranes and clinical endometritis was supported by an expert panel of clinicians and the risk factors appear to be associated with trauma of the female genital tract and disruption of the physical barriers to infection rather than fecal contamination.
Journal ArticleDOI
Microbial diversity and community composition of caecal microbiota in commercial and indigenous Indian chickens determined using 16s rDNA amplicon sequencing.
Ramesh J. Pandit,Ankit T. Hinsu,Namrata Patel,Prakash G. Koringa,Subhash J. Jakhesara,Jalpa R. Thakkar,Tejas M. Shah,Georgina Limon,Androniki Psifidi,Androniki Psifidi,Javier Guitian,David A. Hume,Fiona M. Tomley,Dharamshibhai N. Rank,Muthusamy Raman,K.G. Tirumurugaan,Damer P. Blake,Chaitanya G. Joshi +17 more
TL;DR: Chicken breed-specific variation in bacterial occurrence, correlation between genera and clustering of operational taxonomic units indicate scope for quantitative genetic analysis and the possibility of selective breeding of chickens for defined enteric microbiota.
Journal ArticleDOI
Interventions for avian influenza A (H5N1) risk management in live bird market networks.
Guillaume Fournié,Javier Guitian,Stéphanie Desvaux,Vu Chi Cuong,Do H. Dung,Dirk U. Pfeiffer,Punam Mangtani,Azra C. Ghani +7 more
TL;DR: The number of trader visits to markets, information that can be collected quickly and easily, may be used to identify LBMs suitable for implementing interventions, and this would not require prior knowledge of the force of infection, for which laboratory-confirmed surveillance would be necessary.
Journal ArticleDOI
Brucella spp. infection in large ruminants in an endemic area of Egypt: cross-sectional study investigating seroprevalence, risk factors and livestock owner's knowledge, attitudes and practices (KAPs)
Hannah R. Holt,Mahmoud Eltholth,Mahmoud Eltholth,Yamen M. Hegazy,Yamen M. Hegazy,Wael F. El-Tras,Ahmed A. Tayel,Javier Guitian +7 more
TL;DR: Brucellosis was endemic at high levels, in an Egyptian village and although livestock owners had good general knowledge of brucellosis, they still appeared to participate in high-risk behaviours, which may contribute to the high seroprevalence in the area.
