TL;DR: In this paper, a new technique for monitoring the condition of rotating machinery from vibration analyses is presented, combining the capability of wavelet transform (WT) to treat transient signals with the ability of auto-associative neural networks to extract features of data sets in an unsupervised mode.

Gear dynamics monitoring using discrete wavelet transformation and multi-layer perceptron neural networks

TL;DR: The proposed algorithm provides information referred to the gear status and estimates the mesh stiffness per shaft revolution in case that any abnormality is detected and results show that it can update the mesh dynamic properties of the gear on line.
