The Artefacts from the Fort at Mleiha: Distribution, Origins, Trade and Dating

Abstract: This paper presents the results of the French excavations at the fort in area CW at Mleiha (Sharjah, UAE). Excavation of the fort is now complete and a preliminary evaluation is now presented which sets out to define the function of the building through analysis of the distribution of the artefacts. An attempt is also made to determine the origin of those artefacts in order to date the building and place it within an inter-regional exchange pattern. Occupation of the fort is shown to be dated to between the second and fourth centuries AD.
