Journal ArticleDOI
Small molecules targeting severe acute respiratory syndrome human coronavirus
Chung-Yi Wu,Jia Tsrong Jan,Shiou Hwa Ma,Chin Jung Kuo,Hsueh Fen Juan,Yih Shyun E. Cheng,Hsien Hua Hsu,Hsuan Cheng Huang,Douglass Wu,Ashraf Brik,Fu-Sen Liang,Rai-Shung Liu,Jim-Min Fang,Jim-Min Fang,Shui-Tein Chen,Po-Huang Liang,Chi-Huey Wong,Chi-Huey Wong +17 more
TL;DR: A cell-based assay was developed to screen existing drugs, natural products, and synthetic compounds to identify effective anti-SARS agents, and of particular interest are the two anti-HIV agents, one as an entry blocker and the other as a 3CL protease inhibitor.
Journal ArticleDOI
Specific plant terpenoids and lignoids possess potent antiviral activities against severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus.
Chih-Chun Wen,Yueh-Hsiung Kuo,Jia Tsrong Jan,Po-Huang Liang,Sheng-Yang Wang,Hong Gi Liu,Ching Kuo Lee,Shang-Tzen Chang,Chih-Jung Kuo,Shoei-Sheng Lee,Chia Chung Hou,Pei-Wen Hsiao,Shih-Chang Chien,Lie-Fen Shyur,Ning-Sun Yang +14 more
TL;DR: It is suggested that specific abietane-type diterpenoids and lignoids exhibit strong anti-SARS-CoV effects.
Journal ArticleDOI
Identification of existing pharmaceuticals and herbal medicines as inhibitors of SARS-CoV-2 infection.
Jia Tsrong Jan,Ting-Jen R. Cheng,Yu Pu Juang,Hsiu Hua Ma,Ying-Ta Wu,Wen-Bin Yang,Cheng Wei Cheng,Xiaorui Chen,Ting Hung Chou,Jiun-Jie Shie,Wei-Chieh Cheng,Rong-Jie Chein,Shi Shan Mao,Pi-Hui Liang,Pi-Hui Liang,Che Ma,Shang-Cheng Hung,Chi-Huey Wong,Chi-Huey Wong +18 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors used a cell-based infection assay to screen more than 3,000 agents used in humans and animals, including 2,855 small molecules and 190 traditional herbal medicines, and identified 15 active small molecules in concentrations ranging from 0.1 nM to 50 μM.
Journal ArticleDOI
Breadth and function of antibody response to acute SARS-CoV-2 infection in humans.
Kuan-Ying A. Huang,Kuan-Ying A. Huang,Tiong Kit Tan,Ting Hua Chen,Chung Guei Huang,Chung Guei Huang,Ruth Harvey,Saira Hussain,Cheng-Pin Chen,Adam Harding,Javier Gilbert-Jaramillo,Xu Liu,Michael L. Daniels,John W. McCauley,Pramila Rijal,Pramila Rijal,Alain Townsend,Alain Townsend +30 more
TL;DR: In this article, serological and plasmablast response was detected within 3 weeks of onset of SARS-CoV-2 infection in all patients and the serological titre was elicited soon after or concomitantly with peripheral PLB response.
Journal ArticleDOI
Development of Oseltamivir Phosphonate Congeners as Anti-influenza Agents
Ting Jen R Cheng,Steven Weinheimer,E. Bart Tarbet,Jia Tsrong Jan,Yih Shyun E. Cheng,Jiun-Jie Shie,Chun-Lin Chen,Chih An Chen,Wei-Che Hsieh,Pei Wei Huang,Wen Hao Lin,Shi Yun Wang,Jim-Min Fang,Jim-Min Fang,Oliver Yoa Pu Hu,Chi-Huey Wong +15 more
TL;DR: Oseltamivir phosphonic acid, its mono methyl ester, guanidino-tamiphosphor, and its monoethyl ester are potent inhibitors of influenza neuraminidases that inhibit the replication of influenza viruses at low nanomolar to picomolar levels, and significantly protect mice from infection with lethal doses of influenza virus when orally administered with 1 mg/kg or higher doses.
