Journal ArticleDOI
Octaphenylbiphenylene and dodecaphenyltriptycene.
TL;DR: 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,13,14,15,16-Dodecaphenyltriptycene, perhaps the most crowded triptycene derivative yet prepared, has been made by the reaction of tetraphenylbenzyne with 1,2., which was synthesized in two steps from commercial starting materials.
Journal ArticleDOI
Synthesis of an Extremely Crowded Naphthalene via a Stable Norbornadienone
TL;DR: Computational studies at the HF/3-21G and B3LYP/6-31G(d) levels suggest that 5,6,8-tri(tert-butyl)-1,2,3,4-tetraphenylnaphthalene (2) is perhaps the most crowded naphthaene derivative that will show normal stability; more highly congested naphthalenes will prefer to exist as the corresponding Dewar isomers.
Journal ArticleDOI
Curious reduction products from a strained polycyclic quinone
TL;DR: In this article, a reduction of an adjacent aromatic ring leads to the cis -9,22-dihydro compound, in which steric crowding is substantially relieved.
