Processing bulk natural wood into a high-performance structural material
Jianwei Song,Chaoji Chen,Shuze Zhu,Mingwei Zhu,Jiaqi Dai,Upamanyu Ray,Yiju Li,Yudi Kuang,Yongfeng Li,Nelson Quispe,Yonggang Yao,Amy Gong,Ulrich H. Leiste,Hugh A. Bruck,Junyong Zhu,Azhar Vellore,Heng Li,Marilyn L. Minus,Zheng Jia,Ashlie Martini,Teng Li,Liangbing Hu +21 more
TL;DR: A simple and effective strategy to transform bulk natural wood directly into a high-performance structural material with a more than tenfold increase in strength, toughness and ballistic resistance and with greater dimensional stability is reported.
Journal ArticleDOI
A radiative cooling structural material.
Tian Li,Yao Zhai,Shuaiming He,Wentao Gan,Zhiyuan Wei,Mohammad Heidarinejad,Daniel Dalgo,Ruiyu Mi,Xinpeng Zhao,Jianwei Song,Jiaqi Dai,Chaoji Chen,Ablimit Aili,Azhar Vellore,Ashlie Martini,Ronggui Yang,Ronggui Yang,Jelena Srebric,Xiaobo Yin,Liangbing Hu +19 more
TL;DR: By a process of complete delignification and densification of wood, a structural material with a mechanical strength of 404.3 megapascals is developed, more than eight times that of natural wood, resulting in continuous subambient cooling during both day and night.
Journal ArticleDOI
Plasmonic Wood for High‐Efficiency Solar Steam Generation
Mingwei Zhu,Mingwei Zhu,Yiju Li,Fengjuan Chen,Xueyi Zhu,Jiaqi Dai,Yongfeng Li,Zhi Yang,Xuejun Yan,Jianwei Song,Yanbin Wang,Emily Hitz,Wei Luo,Minhui Lu,Bao Yang,Liangbing Hu +15 more
TL;DR: Wang et al. as discussed by the authors designed a novel type of plasmonic material, which is made by uniformly decorating fine metal nanoparticles into the 3D mesoporous matrix of natural wood.
Journal ArticleDOI
Highly Flexible and Efficient Solar Steam Generation Device
Chaoji Chen,Chaoji Chen,Yiju Li,Jianwei Song,Zhi Yang,Yudi Kuang,Emily Hitz,Chao Jia,Amy Gong,Feng Jiang,Junyong Zhu,Bao Yang,Jia Xie,Liangbing Hu +13 more
TL;DR: The nature-inspired design concept in this study is straightforward and easily scalable, representing one of the most promising solutions for renewable and portable solar energy generation and other related phase-change applications.
Journal ArticleDOI
All-wood, low tortuosity, aqueous, biodegradable supercapacitors with ultra-high capacitance
Chaoji Chen,Chaoji Chen,Ying Zhang,Yiju Li,Jiaqi Dai,Jianwei Song,Yonggang Yao,Yunhui Gong,Iain Kierzewski,Jia Xie,Liangbing Hu +10 more
TL;DR: In this article, an all-wood-structured asymmetric supercapacitor (ASC) based on an activated wood carbon (AWC) anode, a wood membrane separator and a MnO2/wood carbon (MnO2@WC) cathode is presented.
