Terahertz nondestructive imaging for foreign object detection in glass fibre-reinforced polymer composite panels

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors employed Terahertz time-domain spectroscopy (THz-TDS) to detect hidden inclusions with various shapes and materials in glass fiber reinforced polymer (GFRP) composite solid panels.
Journal ArticleDOI

Noncontact detection of Teflon inclusions in glass-fiber-reinforced polymer composites using terahertz imaging.

TL;DR: Terahertz time-domain spectroscopy imaging technology was employed, a new nondestructive testing method, to detect the inclusions of glass-fiber-reinforced polymer (GFRP) composites, and it was experimentally demonstrated that THz TDS imaging technology could clearly detect a smaller inclusion hidden behind a larger inclusion.
Journal ArticleDOI

A Comparative Study of Non-destructive Evaluation of Glass Fiber Reinforced Polymer Composites Using Terahertz, X-ray, and Ultrasound Imaging

TL;DR: In this article, a set of samples of glass fiber reinforced polymer composites with Teflon inclusions in the shape of pentagram have been specifically designed and fabricated for the purpose of assessing the efficacy and practicality of terahertz (THz) time domain spectroscopy (TDS) system in non-destructive evaluation (NDE), in side-byside comparison with X-ray computed tomography (CT), and ultrasonic imaging.
Journal ArticleDOI

Nondestructive evaluation of glass fiber honeycomb sandwich panels using reflective terahertz imaging

TL;DR: The glass fiber honeycomb sandwich panel is an efficient structural configuration which has been widely used in several designs related to air, sea, and land transport systems as mentioned in this paper, such as air and sea transport systems.
Journal ArticleDOI

Nondestructive damage evaluation of composites based on terahertz and X-ray image fusion

TL;DR: In this paper , a new fusion algorithm applied to the THz and X-ray CT NDT imaging data, based on the combination of saliency region analysis (SRA) and wavelet based multi-scale transforms (W-MST), is proposed to detect delamination and inclusion defects of GFRP composites.
