Flexible perovskite solar cells (f‐PSCs) have attracted great attention because of their unique advantages in lightweight and portable electronics applications. However, their efficiencies are far inferior to those of their rigid counterparts. Herein, a novel histamine diiodate (HADI) is designed based on theoretical study to modify the SnO2/perovskite interface. Systematic experimental results reveal that the HADI serves effectively as a multifunctional agent mainly in three aspects: 1) surface modification to realign the SnO2 conduction band upward to improve interfacial charge extraction; 2) passivating the buried perovskite surface, and 3) bridging between the SnO2 and perovskite layers for effective charge transfer. Consequently, the rigid MA‐free PSCs based on the HADI‐SnO2 electron transport layer (ETL) display not only a high champion power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 24.79% and open‐circuit voltage (VOC) of 1.20 V but also outstanding stability as demonstrated by the PSCs preserving 91% of their initial efficiencies after being exposed to ambient atmosphere for 1200 h without any encapsulation. Furthermore, the solution‐processed HADI‐SnO2 ETL formed at low temperature (100 °C) is utilized in f‐PSCs that achieve a PCE as high as 22.44%, the highest reported PCE for f‐PSCs to date.

Record‐Efficiency Flexible Perovskite Solar Cells Enabled by Multifunctional Organic Ions Interface Passivation

The synthetic strategies, photoluminescence mechanisms and promising applications of carbon dots: Current state and future perspective

All-inorganic CsPbI3 perovskite presents preeminent chemical stability and desirable band gap as the front absorber for perovskite/silicon tandem solar cells. Unfortunately, CsPbI3 perovskite solar cells (PSCs) still show low efficiency due to high density of defects in solution-prepared CsPbI3 films. Herein, three kinds of hydrazine derivatives (benzoyl hydrazine (BH), formohydrazide (FH) and benzamide (BA)) are designed to reduce the defect density and stabilize the phase of CsPbI3 . Calculation and characterization results corroborate that the carboxyl and hydrazine groups in BH form strong chemical bonds with Pb2+ ions, resulting in synergetic double coordination. In addition, the hydrazine group in the BH also forms a hydrogen bond with iodine to assist the coordination. Consequently, a high efficiency of 20.47% is achieved, which is the highest PCE among all pure CsPbI3-based PSCs reported to date. In addition, an unencapsulated device showed excellent stability in ambient air.

Hydrazide Derivatives for Defect Passivation in Pure CsPbI3 Perovskite Solar Cells.

Review on efficiency improvement effort of perovskite solar cell

Passivating undercoordinated ions is an effective way to reduce the defect densities at the surface and grain boundaries (GBs) of perovskite materials for enhanced photovoltaic performance and stability of perovskite solar cells (PSCs). Here, (BBF) complex is chosen as a multifunctional additive, which contains both C7H9N and BF3 groups working as Lewis base and Lewis acid, respectively, can bond with Pb2+/I- and FA+ on the surface and in the GBs in the perovskite film, affording passivation of both cation and anion defects. The synergistic effect of the C7H9N and BF3 complex slows the crystallization during the perovskite film deposition to improve the crystalline quality, which reduces the trap density and the recombination in the perovskite film to suppress nonradiative recombination loss and minimizes moisture permeation to improve the stability of the perovskite material. Meanwhile, such an additive improves the energy-level alignment between the valence band of the perovskite and the highest occupied molecular orbital of the hole-transporting material, Spiro-OMeTAD. Consequently, our work achieves power conversion efficiency of 23.24%, accompanied by enhanced stability under ambient conditions and light illumination and opens a new avenue for improving the performance of PSCs through the use of a multifunctional complex.

A Special Additive Enables All Cations and Anions Passivation for Stable Perovskite Solar Cells with Efficiency over 23

The application of ionic liquids in perovskite has attracted wide-spread attention for its astounding performance improvement of perovskite solar cells (PSCs). However, the detailed mechanisms behind the improvement remain mysterious. Herein, a series of imidazolium-based ionic liquids (IILs) with different cations and anions is systematically investigated to elucidate the passivation mechanism of IILs on inorganic perovskites. It is found that IILs display the following advantages: (1) They form ionic bonds with Cs+ and Pb2+ cations on the surface and at the grain boundaries of perovskite films, which could effectively heal/reduce the Cs+/I- vacancies and Pb-related defects; (2) They serve as a bridge between the perovskite and the hole-transport-layer for effective charge extraction and transfer; and (3) They increase the hydrophobicity of the perovskite surface to further improve the stability of the CsPbI2Br PSCs. The combination of the above effects results in suppressed non-radiative recombination loss in CsPbI2Br PSCs and an impressive power conversion efficiency of 17.02%. Additionally, the CsPbI2Br PSCs with IILs surface modification exhibited improved ambient and light illumination stability. Our results provide guidance for an in-depth understanding of the passivation mechanism of IILs in inorganic perovskites.

Unraveling Passivation Mechanism of Imidazolium-Based Ionic Liquids on Inorganic Perovskite to Achieve Near-Record-Efficiency CsPbI2Br Solar Cells.

Interface modification to minimize charge recombination and trapping for efficient charge transport is crucial for the performance of perovskite solar cells (PSCs). Herein, functionalized p-type blue carbon dots (B-CDs) are ventured as an interface passivation layer to enhance the efficiency and long-term stability of all-inorganic CsPbI2 Br PSCs. It is found that first the blue carbon dots with abundant NH, CN, CO, and CO functional groups effectively passivate defects by reacting with I- and Pb2+ ions in the perovskite through hydrogen and coordinative bonds. Second, the p-type B-CDs modifiers form a P-N junction with the n-type perovskite to provide efficient pathways for hole transfer and electron blocking. Third, the B-CDs increase the hydrophobicity of the perovskite film to improve the stability of CsPbI2 Br PSCs. With the above advantages, the CsPbI2 Br PSC with B-CDs modification shows an efficiency as high as 16.76%, one of the highest for its type. In addition, the modification renders significant improvement of air and light stability, with 95.33% of the initial PCE retained after storage in the ambient environment for 1000 h. This work demonstrates the great potential of B-CDs application in perovskite-based optoelectronic devices.
