Melanocortin 1 receptor genotype, past environmental sun exposure, and risk of multiple sclerosis
Terence Dwyer,I van der Mei,Anne-Louise Ponsonby,Bruce V. Taylor,Jim Stankovich,James D. McKay,Russell Thomson,Andrea M. Polanowski,Joanne L. Dickinson +8 more
TL;DR: The modification of past sun exposure by MC1R genotype provides further support that ultraviolet radiation or derivatives such as vitamin D may be causally related to a reduced MS risk.
Journal ArticleDOI
HLA-DRB1 associations with disease susceptibility and clinical course in Australians with multiple sclerosis
Jim Stankovich,Helmut Butzkueven,Helmut Butzkueven,Helmut Butzkueven,Mark Marriott,Mark Marriott,C. Chapman,Niall Tubridy,Brian D. Tait,Michael D. Varney,Bruce V. Taylor,Simon J. Foote,Trevor J. Kilpatrick,Trevor J. Kilpatrick,Trevor J. Kilpatrick,Justin P. Rubio,Justin P. Rubio +16 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigated DRB1 alleles in a large sample of 1230 Australian MS cases, with some enrichment for subjects with primary progressive (PPMS) disease (n = 246) and 1210 healthy controls.
Journal ArticleDOI
Extended haplotype analysis in the HLA complex reveals an increased frequency of the HFE-C282Y mutation in individuals with multiple sclerosis
Justin P. Rubio,Justin P. Rubio,Melanie Bahlo,Melanie Bahlo,Niall Tubridy,Jim Stankovich,Jim Stankovich,Rachel K. Burfoot,Helmut Butzkueven,Caron Chapman,Laura J. Johnson,Mark Marriott,Grant Mraz,Brian D. Tait,Chris Wilkinson,Chris Wilkinson,Bruce V. Taylor,Terence P. Speed,Terence P. Speed,Simon J. Foote,Simon J. Foote,Trevor J. Kilpatrick,Trevor J. Kilpatrick +22 more
TL;DR: The results of linkage disequilibrium (LD) and log linear modelling analyses suggest that C282Y is increased in MS cases of NWE ancestry because it is in LD with the ancestral DR15 susceptibility haplotype and that it does not play an independent role in predisposition to MS.
Comparing genotyping algorithms for Illumina's Infinium whole-genome SNP BeadChips | NOVA. The University of Newcastle's Digital Repository
Matthew E. Ritchie,Liu Ruijie,Trevor J. Kilpatrick,Jeannette Lechner-Scott,Pablo Moscato,Victoria M. Perreau,Justin P. Rubio,Rodney J. Scott,Jim Stankovich,Graeme J. Stewart,Bruce V. Taylor,James Wiley,Benilton S. Carvalho,David R. Booth,Glynnis Clarke,Mathew B. Cox,Peter A. Csurhes,Patrick Danoy,Joanne L. Dickinson,Karen Drysdale,Judith Field,Judith M. Greer,Lyn R. Griffiths,Rafael A. Irizarry,Preethi Guru,Johanna Hadler,Ella Hoban,Brendan J. McMorran,Cathy J. Jensen,Laura J. Johnson,Ruth McCallum,Marilyn Merriman,Tony Merriman,Andrea Polanowski,Melanie Bahlo,Karena Pryce,Lotfi Tajouri,Lucy Whittock,Ella J. Wilkins,Brian L. Browning,Sharon R. Browning,Devindri Perera,Helmut Butzkueven,William M. Carroll,Caron Chapman,Allan G. Kermode,Mark Marriott,Deborah F. Mason,Robert Heard,Michael P. Pender,Mark Slee,Niall Tubridy,Ernest Willoughby,Simon Broadley,Matthew A. Brown,Simon J. Foote +55 more
TL;DR: It is observed that CRLMM and GenoSNP are more accurate at calling SNPs with low minor allele frequency than GenCall or Illuminus, and can be applied with confidence in studies of any size.
Journal ArticleDOI
Apolipoprotein genotype does not influence MS severity, cognition, or brain atrophy.
A Van der Walt,Jim Stankovich,Melanie Bahlo,Bruce V. Taylor,I. A. F. van der Mei,Simon J. Foote,Trevor J. Kilpatrick,Justin P. Rubio,Helmut Butzkueven +8 more
TL;DR: Allelic and haplotypic heterogeneity of the APOE gene region does not influence multiple sclerosis disease course in this well-defined Australian multiple sclerosis cohort.
