Journal ArticleDOI
The effect of finasteride on the risk of acute urinary retention and the need for surgical treatment among men with benign prostatic hyperplasia
John D. McConnell,Reginald C. Bruskewitz,Patrick C. Walsh,Gerald L. Andriole,Michael M. Lieber,H.L. Holtgrewe,Peter C. Albertsen,Claus G. Roehrborn,J.C. Nickel,Daniel Z. Wang,Alice Taylor,Joanne Waldstreicher +11 more
TL;DR: Among men with symptoms of urinary obstruction and prostatic enlargement, treatment with finasteride for four years reduces symptoms and prostate volume, increases the urinary flow rate, and reduces the probability of surgery and acute urinary retention.
Journal ArticleDOI
Serum prostate-specific antigen as a predictor of prostate volume in men with benign prostatic hyperplasia.
TL;DR: Prostate volume is strongly related to serum PSA in men with BPH and no evidence of prostate cancer, and the relationship depends on age, while Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves revealed that PSA had good predictive value for assessing prostate volume.
Journal ArticleDOI
Serum prostate-specific antigen concentration is a powerful predictor of acute urinary retention and need for surgery in men with clinical benign prostatic hyperplasia
Claus G. Roehrborn,John D. McConnell,Michael M. Lieber,Steven A. Kaplan,Jack Geller,Gholem H. Malek,Ronald Castellanos,Scott K. Coffield,Brian Saltzman,Martin I. Resnick,Thomas J. Cook,Joanne Waldstreicher +11 more
TL;DR: Serum PSA and prostate volume are powerful predictors of the risk of AUR and the need for BPH-related surgery in men with BPH.
Journal ArticleDOI

Journal ArticleDOI
Lack of efficacy of finasteride in postmenopausal women with androgenetic alopecia.
Vera H. Price,Janet L. Roberts,Maria K. Hordinsky,Elise A. Olsen,Ronald C. Savin,Wilma F. Bergfeld,Virginia C. Fiedler,Anne W. Lucky,David A. Whiting,Frances Pappas,Jennifer Culbertson,Paul Kotey,Alan G. Meehan,Joanne Waldstreicher +13 more
TL;DR: In postmenopausal women with AGA, finasteride 1 mg/day taken for 12 months did not not increase hair growth or slow the progression of hair thinning.
