Expanded Clinical Evaluation of Lovastatin (EXCEL) study results. I. Efficacy in modifying plasma lipoproteins and adverse event profile in 8245 patients with moderate hypercholesterolemia.
Reagan H. Bradford,Charles L. Shear,Athanassios N. Chremos,Carlos A. Dujovne,Maria Downton,Frank A. Franklin,A. Lawrence Gould,Michael Hesney,Jim Higgins,Dennis P. Hurley,Alexandra Langendorfer,David T. Nash,James L. Pool,Harold W. Schnaper +13 more
TL;DR: In the Expanded Clinical Evaluation of Lovastatin (EXCEL) Study, a multicenter, double-blind, diet- and placebo-controlled trial, the efficacy and safety of lovastatin were evaluated in 8245 patients with moderate hypercholesterolemia.
Journal ArticleDOI
Prostate volume predicts outcome of treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia with finasteride: Meta-analysis of randomized clinical trials*
Peter Boyle,Peter Boyle,Peter Boyle,A. Lawrence Gould,A. Lawrence Gould,A. Lawrence Gould,Claus G. Roehrborn,Claus G. Roehrborn,Claus G. Roehrborn +8 more
TL;DR: A meta-analysis suggests thatfinasteride is most effective in men with large prostates, and men with small prostates may not be suitable candidates for finasteride therapy for BPH.
Journal ArticleDOI
Serum prostate-specific antigen as a predictor of prostate volume in men with benign prostatic hyperplasia.
TL;DR: Prostate volume is strongly related to serum PSA in men with BPH and no evidence of prostate cancer, and the relationship depends on age, while Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves revealed that PSA had good predictive value for assessing prostate volume.
Journal ArticleDOI
Perspectives on the Use of Data Mining in Pharmacovigilance
June S. Almenoff,Joseph M. Tonning,A. Lawrence Gould,Ana Szarfman,Manfred Hauben,Manfred Hauben,Manfred Hauben,Rita Ouellet-Hellstrom,Robert Ball,Ken Hornbuckle,Louisa Walsh,Chuen Yee,Susan Sacks,Nancy A. Yuen,Vaishali Patadia,Michael D. Blum,Mike Johnston,Charles Gerrits,Harry A. Seifert,Karol LaCroix +19 more
TL;DR: An overview of the statistical and operational attributes of several currently used methods and their strengths and limitations and points to consider in integration of safety data mining with traditional pharmacovigilance methods are provided.
Journal ArticleDOI
Sample size re-estimation without unblinding for normally distributed outcomes with unknown variance
TL;DR: In this paper, a new method for carrying out such interim power evaluations for observations from normal distributions without unblinding the treatment assignments or discernably affecting the Type 1 error rate is presented.
