Liver transplantation for hepatocellular carcinoma: Expansion of the tumor size limits does not adversely impact survival
Francis Y. Yao,Linda D. Ferrell,Nathan M. Bass,Jessica J. Watson,Peter Bacchetti,Alan P. Venook,Nancy L. Ascher,John P. Roberts +7 more
TL;DR: The current criteria for OLT based on tumor size may be modestly expanded while still preserving excellent survival after OLT, and only pT4 stage and total tumor diameter remained statistically significant in multivariate analysis.
Journal ArticleDOI
Recurrent and acquired hepatitis C viral infection in liver transplant recipients.
Teresa L. Wright,Teresa L. Wright,Teresa L. Wright,Elizabeth Donegan,Elizabeth Donegan,Elizabeth Donegan,Henry H. Hsu,Henry H. Hsu,Henry H. Hsu,Linda D. Ferrell,Linda D. Ferrell,Linda D. Ferrell,John R. Lake,John R. Lake,John R. Lake,Michael Kim,Michael Kim,Michael Kim,Connie Combs,Connie Combs,Connie Combs,Sean Fennessy,Sean Fennessy,Sean Fennessy,John P. Roberts,John P. Roberts,John P. Roberts,Nancy L. Ascher,Nancy L. Ascher,Nancy L. Ascher,Harry B. Greenberg,Harry B. Greenberg,Harry B. Greenberg +32 more
TL;DR: Although HCV infection recurs posttransplant in almost all infected patients, acquisition of theHCV infection with transplant is common, and although many patients with postTransplant viremia have little evidence of histologic hepatitis, significant hepatic damage may occur.
Journal ArticleDOI
Excellent outcome following down-staging of hepatocellular carcinoma prior to liver transplantation: an intention-to-treat analysis.
Francis Y. Yao,Robert K. Kerlan,Ryutaro Hirose,Timothy J. Davern,Nathan M. Bass,Sandy Feng,Marion G. Peters,Norah A. Terrault,Chris E. Freise,Nancy L. Ascher,John P. Roberts +10 more
TL;DR: Successful down‐staging of HCC can be achieved in the majority of carefully selected patients and is associated with excellent posttransplantation outcome, as well as in the explant of 35 patients who underwent OLT.
Journal ArticleDOI
Liver Transplantation for Hepatocellular Carcinoma: Validation of the UCSF-Expanded Criteria Based on Preoperative Imaging
TL;DR: The results validated the ability of the UCSF criteria to discriminate prognosis after OLT and to serve as selection criteria for OLT, with a similar risk of tumor recurrence and under‐staging when compared to the Milan criteria.
Journal ArticleDOI
Creation of transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunts with the wallstent endoprosthesis: results in 100 patients.
Jeanne M. LaBerge,Ernest J. Ring,Roy L. Gordon,John R. Lake,Margaret M. Doherty,Kenneth A. Somberg,John P. Roberts,Nancy L. Ascher +7 more
TL;DR: It is concluded that TIPS creation is an effective and reliable means of lowering portal pressure and controlling variceal bleeding, particularly in patients with acute varicesal bleeding unresponsive to sclerotherapy and patients with chronic variceAL bleeding before liver transplantation.
