Journal ArticleDOI
Efficacy of B-cell-targeted therapy with rituximab in patients with rheumatoid arthritis.
Jonathan C. W. Edwards,Leszek Szczepanski,Jacek Szechiński,Anna Filipowicz-Sosnowska,Paul Emery,D. Close,Randall M Stevens,T. Shaw +7 more
TL;DR: In patients with active rheumatoid arthritis despite methotrexate treatment, a single course of two infusions of rituximab, alone or in combination with either cyclophosphamide or continued methotRexate, provided significant improvement in disease symptoms at both weeks 24 and 48.
Journal ArticleDOI
An open study of B lymphocyte depletion in systemic lupus erythematosus
Maria J. Leandro,Jonathan C. W. Edwards,Geraldine Cambridge,Michael R. Ehrenstein,David A. Isenberg +4 more
TL;DR: This study provides sufficient evidence for the safety and possible efficacy of B lymphocyte depletion therapy in SLE to justify a formal controlled trial.
Journal ArticleDOI
Sustained improvement in rheumatoid arthritis following a protocol designed to deplete B lymphocytes
TL;DR: Findings are consistent with the concept that RA is critically dependent on B lymphocytes and suggest that B-lymphocyte depletion may be a safe and effective therapy.
Journal ArticleDOI
Reconstitution of peripheral blood B cells after depletion with rituximab in patients with rheumatoid arthritis
TL;DR: Rituximab induced a profound depletion of all peripheral blood B cell populations in patients with RA, which was dependent on the formation of naive B cells, which showed an increased expression of CD38 and CD5.
Journal ArticleDOI
Serologic changes following B lymphocyte depletion therapy for rheumatoid arthritis.
Geraldine Cambridge,Maria J. Leandro,Jonathan C. W. Edwards,Michael R. Ehrenstein,Martin Salden,M D Bodman-Smith,Anthony D B Webster +6 more
TL;DR: Following B lymphocyte depletion in patients with RA, a positive clinical response occurred in correlation with a significant drop in the levels of CRP and autoantibodies, consistent with a role for B lymphocytes in the pathogenesis of RA.
