Journal ArticleDOI
Antimicrobial activity of the essential oil from Lippia sidoides, carvacrol and thymol against oral pathogens.
Marco Antonio Botelho,Nádia Accioly Pinto Nogueira,G.M. Bastos,Said Gonçalves da Cruz Fonseca,Telma L. G. Lemos,Francisco José de Abreu Matos,D. Montenegro,Jorg Heukelbach,Vietla Satyanarayana Rao,Gerly Anne de Castro Brito +9 more
TL;DR: The essential oil of L. sidoides and its major components exert promising antimicrobial effects against oral pathogens and suggest its likely usefulness to combat oral microbial growth.
Journal ArticleDOI
Dyrk, a dual specificity protein kinase with unique structural features whose activity is dependent on tyrosine residues between subdomains VII and VIII.
Heiner Kentrup,Walter Becker,Jorg Heukelbach,Anja Wilmes,Annette Schürmann,Christine Huppertz,Heikki Kainulainen,Hans-Georg Joost +7 more
TL;DR: The cDNA of a novel, ubiquitously expressed protein kinase (Dyrk) was cloned from a rat brain cDNA library and the data suggest that Dyrk is a dual specificityprotein kinase that is regulated by tyrosine phosphorylation in the activation loop and might be a component of a signaling pathway regulating nuclear functions.
Journal ArticleDOI
Investigations on the biology, epidemiology, pathology and control of Tunga penetrans in Brazil: I. Natural history of tungiasis in man
Margit Eisele,Jorg Heukelbach,Eric Van Marck,Heinz Mehlhorn,Oliver Meckes,Sabine Franck,Hermann Feldmeier +6 more
TL;DR: The proposed Fortaleza classification can be used for clinical and epidemiological purposes, which allows a more precise diagnosis, enables the assessment of chemotherapeutic approaches and helps to evaluate control measures at the community level.
Journal ArticleDOI
Tungiasis: a neglected health problem of poor communities.
TL;DR: Tungiasis remains an important public health problem for the very poor, a problem neglected by those who are affected, by the medical profession and by the scientific community.
Journal ArticleDOI
Epidemiological and clinical characteristics of hookworm-related cutaneous larva migrans.
TL;DR: To control hookworm-related cutaneous larva migrans at the community level, regular treatment of dogs and cats with anthelmintic drugs is necessary, but this is seldom feasible in resource-poor settings.
