Multicenter Phase II Trial of Neoadjuvant Pemetrexed Plus Cisplatin Followed by Extrapleural Pneumonectomy and Radiation for Malignant Pleural Mesothelioma
Lee M. Krug,Harvey I. Pass,Valerie W. Rusch,Hedy L. Kindler,David J. Sugarbaker,Kenneth E. Rosenzweig,Raja M. Flores,Joseph S. Friedberg,Katherine M.W. Pisters,Matthew J. Monberg,Coleman K. Obasaju,Nicholas J. Vogelzang +11 more
TL;DR: This multicenter trial showed that trimodality therapy with neoadjuvant pemetrexed plus cisplatin is feasible with a reasonable long-term survival rate, particularly for patients who completed all therapy.
Journal ArticleDOI
BAP1 cancer syndrome: malignant mesothelioma, uveal and cutaneous melanoma, and MBAITs.
Michele Carbone,Michele Carbone,Laura K. Ferris,Francine Baumann,Andrea Napolitano,Christopher A. Lum,Christopher A. Lum,Erin G. Flores,Giovanni Gaudino,Amy Powers,Amy Powers,Amy Powers,Peter Bryant-Greenwood,Peter Bryant-Greenwood,Peter Bryant-Greenwood,Thomas Krausz,Elizabeth Hyjek,Rachael Tate,Joseph S. Friedberg,Tracey L. Weigel,Harvey I. Pass,Haining Yang,Haining Yang +22 more
TL;DR: Germline BAP1 mutations are associated with a novel cancer syndrome characterized by malignant mesothelioma, uveal melanoma, cutaneous melanoma and MBAITs, and possibly by other cancers.
Journal ArticleDOI
Suction vs Water Seal After Pulmonary Resection* A Randomized Prospective Study
M. Blair Marshall,Maher E Deeb,Joshua I. S. Bleier,John C. Kucharczuk,Joseph S. Friedberg,Larry R. Kaiser,Joseph B. Shrager +6 more
TL;DR: Placing chest tubes on water seal after a brief period of suction after pulmonary resection shortens the duration of the air leak and likely decreases the time that the chest tubes remain in place.
Journal ArticleDOI
Trial of a novel synthetic sealant in preventing air leaks after lung resection.
John C. Wain,Larry R. Kaiser,David W. Johnstone,Stephen C. Yang,Cameron D. Wright,Joseph S. Friedberg,Richard H. Feins,Richard F. Heitmiller,Douglas J. Mathisen,Murray R Selwyn +9 more
TL;DR: The application of this novel surgical sealant appears to be effective and safe in preventing postoperative air leaks in patients undergoing thoracotomy.
Journal ArticleDOI
Radical pleurectomy and intraoperative photodynamic therapy for malignant pleural mesothelioma.
Joseph S. Friedberg,Melissa Culligan,Rosemarie Mick,James P. Stevenson,Stephen M. Hahn,Daniel H. Sterman,Salman Punekar,Eli Glatstein,Keith A. Cengel +8 more
TL;DR: It was possible to achieve a macroscopic complete resection using lung-sparing surgery in 97% of these patients with stage III/IV disease and the survival the authors observed was unusually long for the patients with the epithelial subtype but, interestingly, the PFS was not.
