Vortex ring formation at an orifice

TL;DR: In this article, high spatial resolution PIV measurements using film recording have yielded detailed instantaneous 2D velocity fields of the formation of orifice generated vortex rings, enabling the location and magnitude of regions of both primary and secondary vorticity to be determined.

Study of Vortical Structures in Turbulent Near-Wall Flows

TL;DR: In this paper, the detection of near-wall turbulence is based on a fit of the velocity field surrounding extrema of swirling strength to an Oseen vortex, and statistical results on the characteristics of the vortices (radius, vorticity, convection velocity, density) are investigated, giving some new insight into the organization of nearwall turbulence.

Stability of Taylor-Couette flow with axial flow

TL;DR: In this article, a torquemeasurement technique was used to investigate the effects of axial flow on the stability of Taylor-Couette flow and showed that the critical Taylor number for the onset of Taylor vortices increases monotonically with the Reynolds number of the Axial flow and asymptotes to a constant value.
