Journal ArticleDOI

An Overlooked Entry Pathway of Microplastics into Agricultural Soils from Application of Sludge-based Fertilizers

TL;DR: It is speculated that sludge composts may act as a vehicle of MPs into soils, and then enter soil biota and in turn influence the spread of MPs in the environment.
Journal ArticleDOI

Distribution of microplastics in surface water and sediments of Qin river in Beibu Gulf, China

TL;DR: Wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) could effectively decrease the microplastic abundance in urban sewage, reducing the impact of urban sewage discharge on microplastics accumulation in Qin River.
Journal ArticleDOI

Occurrence and removal of microplastics from wastewater treatment plants in a typical tourist city in China

TL;DR: Wang et al. as mentioned in this paper analyzed the dynamic distribution of microplastics in each wastewater treatment stage, of which, one used A/O process and the other three using A/A-O process, and found that microplastic content in the WWTP influent was 0.70-8.72 items/L, in which 41.2-47.1% were removed during the pretreatment stage.
Journal ArticleDOI

Trichloroethylene remediation using zero-valent iron with kaolin clay, activated carbon and bacteria.

TL;DR: In this article , nanoscale particles of zero-valent iron were used to form a permeable reactive barrier whose performance in dechlorinating a solution of trichloroethylene was compared with that of a barrier formed from limestone.
