Friedel–Crafts Reaction of Benzyl Fluorides: Selective Activation of C ? F Bonds as Enabled by Hydrogen Bonding

TL;DR: A Friedel-Crafts benzylation of arenes with benzyl fluorides has been developed and produces 1,1-diaryl alkanes in good yield under mild conditions without the need for a transition metal or a strong Lewis acid.
Journal ArticleDOI

Organic Fluorine as a Hydrogen-Bond Acceptor: Recent Examples and Applications

TL;DR: In this paper, only the most recent examples from the literature are presented and the different techniques used to prove the presence of these C−F−H−X hydrogen bonds are compared and discussed according to the accepted criteria for hydrogen bonding detailed by a recent IUPAC committee.
Journal ArticleDOI

Halogenation of Primary Alcohols Using a Tetraethylammonium Halide/[Et2NSF2]BF4 Combination

TL;DR: The use of a combination of tetraethylammonium halide and [Et(2)NSF(2)]BF(4) (XtalFluor-E) allows for chlorination and bromination reactions to proceed efficiently with a wide range of alcohols.
Journal ArticleDOI

Faster initiation in the Friedel-Crafts reaction of benzyl fluorides using trifluoroacetic acid as activator

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors reported that the addition of a catalytic amount of trifluoroacetic acid (TFA) shortens the induction period associated with the 1, 1,1, 3,3,3-hexafluoroisopropoanol (HFIP)-promoted Friedel-Crafts reaction of benzylic fluorides.
