Journal ArticleDOI
The Major Resistance Gene Cluster in Lettuce Is Highly Duplicated and Spans Several Megabases
Blake C. Meyers,Doris B. Chin,Katherine A. Shen,Subramoniam Sivaramakrishnan,Dean Lavelle,Zhen Zhang,Richard W Michelmore +6 more
TL;DR: Analysis of low-copy genomic sequences detected no genes, including RGC2, in the Dm3 region, other than sequences related to retrotransposons and transposable elements, indicating that complex rearrangements have shaped this region.
Journal ArticleDOI
Receptor-like Genes in the Major Resistance Locus of Lettuce Are Subject to Divergent Selection
TL;DR: The patterns of variation support the predicted structure of LRR regions with solvent-exposed hypervariable residues that are potentially involved in binding pathogen-derived ligands.
Journal ArticleDOI
Resistance Gene Candidates Identified by PCR with Degenerate Oligonucleotide Primers Map to Clusters of Resistance Genes in Lettuce
Katherine A. Shen,Blake C. Meyers,M. Nurul Islam-Faridi,Doris B. Chin,David M. Stelly,Richard W Michelmore +5 more
TL;DR: The use of PCR with degenerate oligonucleotide primers is an efficient method to identify numerous RGCs in plants and demonstrates the existence of clustered multigene families for each of the four RGC sequences.
Journal ArticleDOI
Giardiavirus double-stranded RNA genome encodes a capsid polypeptide and a gag-pol-like fusion protein by a translation frameshift
TL;DR: Giardiavirus genomic cDNA was constructed and its sequence revealed the presence of two large open reading frames that are separated by a -1 frameshift and share an overlap of 220 nt, and a heptamer-pseudoknot structure similar to those found at ribosomal slippage sites in retroviruses and yeast killer virus was identified within this overlap.
Journal ArticleDOI
Circulating Leukocyte Counts, Activation, and Degranulation in Dahl Hypertensive Rats
TL;DR: A highly significant elevation in the number of total leukocytes, neutrophil and monocyte counts, and NBT-positive neutrophils and monocytes in Dahl-S but not Dahl-R rats is shown.
